Dear Parents and Guardians,
As you know, the Massapequa Union Free School District will host the New York Special Olympic Games on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Berner Middle School.
As part of this exciting event, we are proud to announce that Massapequa will participate with our own Special Olympics Track and Field Teams. We are inviting eligible students to join our teams and take part in this meaningful and inclusive athletic experience.
Student eligibility requirements include being an MSD-enrolled student who is 8 years old or older by May 2, 2026, and who has an intellectual and/or developmental disability. Practices are planned for two days per week during the months of March and April. This program focuses on participation, skill development, teamwork, and celebrating each athlete’s abilities.
If you are interested in having your child participate, please complete the interest survey by February 25, 2026 - https://forms.gle/aQxBDkWspUMUyFuu6. Once responses are collected, we will share additional details.
We are thrilled to offer this opportunity and look forward to celebrating our athletes as part of this special event. Thank you for your continued support of our students and programs.

Good Afternoon Massapequa Students/Families,
Students planning on attending a basketball game being held at Uniondale, we have received the following security regulation from their Athletic Director:
Just a quick reminder as we get into the heart of our basketball schedule, if your school is the visiting team we will only be allowing students in with a physical student ID card (not digital / schedule). If they do not have a physical student ID card they will not be able to enter the game.
We appreciate your cooperation.

Thank you, Massapequa, for your overwhelming response to our call for volunteers for the New York Special Olympics Spring Games, which will be hosted in our community on May 2, 2026. We received over 500 volunteer responses, a powerful testament to the generosity, spirit, and pride that define this incredible community. Your willingness to step forward in support of these athletes speaks volumes about who we are. For all who submitted an interest in volunteering, we anticipate being in touch in early March after we meet again with the Special Olympics and Town of Oyster Bay with next steps and coordination details.
One role I want to highlight as especially important is “Fans in the Stands.” Creating an electric, supportive atmosphere for our athletes is essential to the success of the Games. I encourage you to take a look at your calendar for May 2nd and consider bringing your child(ren), families, friends, and colleagues to help us pack the stands and celebrate these remarkable athletes.
Thank you again for your enthusiasm, your time, and your commitment. Together, we will make the 2026 Spring Games an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
