Dear Massapequa Community,

We write to share with you that the Commissioner of the New York State Department of Education has issued an order, effective October 14, 2025, which prevents the District from enforcing Board Resolutions passed in September 2025. Those resolutions required students to use intimate facilities, including bathrooms and locker rooms, that corresponded to their biological sex. Under the Commissioner’s Order, such separation is now prohibited.

We remain committed to ensuring the safety and dignity of all students. Accordingly, we will continue to offer a gender-neutral locker room and bathroom option to any student who will be more comfortable using such a space.
PPS support is available for anyone who is affected by this decision.

Sincerely,

Massapequa Board of Education

Dear Massapequa Community,

The Board of Education is pleased to announce that we are re-opening the application process for our Budget & Finance Committee and Buildings & Grounds Committee.

We recognize that the initial application period took place over the summer, and some community members may not have had the opportunity to participate. In an effort to ensure that all interested residents have the chance to be involved, we are inviting additional applications at this time.

These advisory committees play an important role in supporting the Board’s work by providing valuable input, perspectives, and recommendations on key areas that impact our schools and community.

If you are interested in serving, please email the district clerk for an application at palvarado@msd.k12.ny.us. Applications should be received by October 17th, at 5:00 PM.

We look forward to continuing to work together in partnership with our community to ensure that Massapequa remains a district we can all be proud of.

Sincerely,
Massapequa Board of Education

To our Massapequa Family,

We’re just over a month into the 2025-26 school year, and what an amazing start it’s been! In September, we welcomed nearly 6,500 students across our nine schools, and the energy has been inspiring. This year’s theme, “Paradigm of Potential: The Power of Connection and Community,” is already coming to life. Our students’ curiosity and determination show limitless potential, the bonds between students and educators grow stronger each day, and the support of our Massapequa community makes it all possible. I invite you to read my full letter and view the September Massapequa Minute and Moment by clicking the links below.

To our Massapequa Family,

I am writing today to share an important reminder about bicycle safety in our community, a message recently emphasized by Danny Pearl, mayor of the Incorporated Village of Massapequa Park. For those who live outside the Village, I’ve attached his letter for your review.

As parents and educators, we want our children to experience the joy and freedom that comes with bike riding. But recent incidents in the Village and surrounding Massapequa neighborhoods have raised serious concerns. Groups of young riders have been observed weaving into traffic, riding on busy sidewalks, and disregarding pedestrian safety—behaviors that put both themselves and others at real risk of harm.

Our district is committed to working closely with families, the Village, and local law enforcement to keep our children safe and to prevent accidents before they occur.  But the most powerful influence comes from you, at home. I urge you to take time today to talk with your children about bicycle safety. Remind them that riding safely is about more than following rules—it’s about protecting themselves, their friends, and every member of our community.

Your voice and your guidance make all the difference. By staying involved  and reinforcing the importance of responsible decision-making, we can keep bike riding the fun, safe experience it should be.

Thank you for your partnership in addressing this urgent issue. Together, we can help our children enjoy the independence of riding bicycles while keeping our community safe.
Sincerely,
William Brennan, Ed.D.

Dear MSD Parents/Guardians,

We were informed that one of our East Lake students was approached by a stranger yesterday evening in their neighborhood. The student immediately rebuffed the individual and safely entered their home. The student’s parents contacted law enforcement, and additional patrols have been deployed in the area. We are sharing this information with you as a reminder to speak with your children about the importance of staying alert to their surroundings and never engaging with strangers. Please encourage them to report any suspicious activity to both law enforcement and school personnel right away. Parents are also welcome to contact our 24-hour district security desk at (516) 308-5333 with any concerns of this nature.

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping us keep our students safe.

Sincerely,
The Massapequa School District

Good afternoon Massapequa Families,

Today was one of those days that reminds me why I am so proud to be part of this community. I had the privilege of visiting all 9 of our schools, and while my step counter is pushing close to 15,000, my heart is even fuller.

The energy, the excitement, and the joy I saw in our classrooms and hallways were truly inspiring. Our students are engaged, our teachers are passionate, and together they are living our theme for this year: A Paradigm of Potential — the Power of Connection and Community.  This theme aligns perfectly with our District Vision - Creating Leaders...One Child at a Time. And let me tell you — you can feel it in every corner of Massapequa.

This post is just the beginning — because in a mere 48 hours, I'll be sharing a passion project that encompasses who we are as a school community – something I know you’ll love. It’s a project we’ve been working on that captures the heart, the spirit, the tradition, and the power of the Massapequa experience. I can’t wait to share this with you!

Until then, I’d love to hear from you — share your own first week energy and let us know what you are most grateful for as we begin this exciting school year. ✨🙌

Stay tuned — this is going to be special. 💙💛

Now, let the countdown begin…⏰

With excitement and gratitude,

To All Parents/Guardians:

The parent portal for the 2025-2026 school year is now open, all bus pass information is available via the Transportation Info icon located in the navigation menu. The information displayed will include the bus number, bus stop location and pick-up/drop-off times. Please note school bus route numbers can change from year to year.

To help make pick up times more accurate, please note the following:

Children should arrive at their bus stop at least TEN MINUTES before the indicated pick up time. All bus drivers will have a list of students on the bus so there is no need to print or show a bus pass.

All Kindergarten students must be escorted to and from their bus stop.

Private/Parochial students will receive a mailing with bus pass information, as they have in the past.

In order to have the safest and most efficient transportation possible, please review the District’s Code of Conduct

If you have any questions, please contact the Transportation Office at 516-308-5065 or via email at transportation@msd.k12.ny.us. Requests for bus stop changes must be submitted in writing to the Transportation Office. Any approved changes will be implemented on or after September 30th.

Sincerely,
The MSD Transportation Team
