The Massapequa School District has again been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education award from the NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education.

Now in its 27th year, the BCME program spotlights and celebrates school districts across the United States for their exemplary dedication to music education and ongoing efforts to ensure equitable access to music learning. This is the 17th time that Massapequa has received the prestigious distinction.

This year, more than 1,000 school districts and schools have been recognized for outstanding achievement in providing access to high-quality music education. Massapequa provides general music instruction to all elementary school students. Beginning in fourth grade, students have the opportunity to join the band or orchestra, as well as the chorus. The middle school and high school offer several concert and select ensembles. An annual Faculty Recital that brings together administrators, teachers, retirees, students and alumni is a marquee annual event of the music department. During Music in Our Schools Month in March, the district hosts secondary choral and orchestra festivals. There are also two annual musical productions — in the fall at Berner Middle School and in the spring at Massapequa High School.

“School music programs give students a chance to fit in and showcase their artistic side, as well as their commitment to the hard work required to be an exceptional musician,” said Vincent Green, director of fine and performing arts. “This award recognizes the community’s appreciation of this work and their ongoing commitment to the growth of the program.”

Recipients of the 2026 BCME awards were selected through a comprehensive application process that evaluates key indicators, including funding, instructional time, participation rates, facilities and community support. To uphold the program’s rigor and credibility, all applications were independently reviewed and verified by WolfBrown, a leading research and evaluation firm specializing in education and the arts.

“Massapequa’s music department, under the leadership of Vincent Green, continues to be a model for music education,” said Superintendent Dr. William Brennan. “Our dedicated teachers and committed students consistently make us proud through stunning concerts, musicals and community performances. Music is part of a well-rounded educational experience and so many of our learners and leaders find their pathway to success because of our district’s rich and robust music program.”
