High School Bakers

Students from Massapequa High School’s culinary arts classes showed their philanthropic side by baking for a local food pantry just before spring break.

The young chefs took park in the King Arthur Baking Company’s Bake For Good initiative. Each group baked two loaves of bread – one to donate and another to eat. Students prepared the dough on March 30, then shaped and baked the loaves the following day. On April 1, a representative from the YES Community Counseling Center food pantry in Massapequa picked up 50 loaves. The bread was provided to local families for holiday meals.

The day before break, each group took its second loaf of bread and made French toast. Classes that participated in the initiative included College Art of Baking, College Food for Fitness and International Foods. Culinary arts students in the fall semester also took part in the Bake for Good initiative prior to Thanksgiving. The courses are taught by family and consumer sciences teachers Courtney Puricelli and Christina Sabbiondo.
