Embracing the giving spirit of the holiday season, the Student Ambassadors club at McKenna Elementary School organized the Bundle Up Bonanza to collect winter wear for the needy.
Fifth grade student leaders came up with the catchy name for the winter accessories drive, in which students and staff are encouraged to donate new items such as gloves, mittens, hats, scarves and socks. Boxes in the main lobby are already starting to fill up, with the drive running from Dec. 15-22. All items will be given to the parish outreach center at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Massapequa Park.
Under the leadership of adviser Olivia Belfiore, members of Student Ambassadors created signs both by hand and digitally to hang around the school to promote the winter clothing drive. They also prepared speeches to read during the morning announcements.
“For people who can’t afford winter accessories, they can now stay warm during the winter,” fifth grader Lucy O. said.
