Unqua students observing 15 days of kindness

There’s the 12 days of Christmas and the eight nights of Hanukkah, but at Unqua Elementary School, fifth graders are observing the 15 days of kindness.

Every day leading up to the holiday break, students come to school eager to find out the kindness challenge of the day. A hallway display started with the 15 challenges covered up with holiday and winter images, with a new one revealed each day. Students are then tasked with spreading joy in their school and beyond by completing the task.

Kindness challenges include saying “thank you” to a school staff member, leaving an encouraging note for someone to find, giving compliments to classmates or teachers, and drawing a picture to brighten someone’s day.

“The students are very excited about this,” said fifth grade teacher Megan Chalil, who spearheaded the initiative. “This gives them a purpose to be kind. They’re enjoying coming to school every days and completing each good deed.”
