School board members with Dr. Brennan celebrating National School Board member recognition week

To mark National School Boards Recognition Week, Superintendent Dr. William Brennan unveiled a months-long project to honor Massapequa’s Board of Education members past, present and future. At the Oct. 21 meeting, he presented the board with a plaque that lists the names and years of service for the 66 trustees who have served since 1937, with plenty of space available for more names.

Dr. Brennan said the plaque will proudly hang in the district office. He recognized the Board of Education for generously giving their time and energy to their volunteer positions, and noted that they are active participants in every corner of the district.

This year’s Board of Education includes President Kerry Wachter, Vice President Jeanine Caramore, Secretary Cher Lepre and trustees Christopher Brooks and Danielle Ocuto. Collectively they bring more than 30 years of experience.

Also on Oct. 21, the board welcomed its first ex officio student trustees. Massapequa High School seniors James Benjamin and Tatum Brennan were officially sworn in. Later in the meeting, they gave their first report with an update on high school happenings.
