Beyond learning their letters and numbers, kindergartners at Unqua Elementary School also are educated on keeping themselves healthy. Recently they were visited by a dental health expert who gave tips on how to keep their teeth clean and strong.
Bryana Sanford, a dental hygienist from Adelberg Montalvan Pediatric Dental in Massapequa, visited kindergarten classes on May 8 to talk to students about proper tooth care, including brushing and flossing, as well as what to expect during a visit to the dentist. Students got to practice brushing techniques on a stuffed alligator. Ms. Sanford also showed the students dental x-rays.
As part of her visit, she read “The Tooth Book” by Dr. Seuss to each class. Ms. Sanford then provided every student with a goodie bag that included a toothbrush, toothpaste, dental hygiene information and a toy.
