May 2026
To Our Massapequa Family:
There is so much excitement in the Massapequa School District right now! We are just a day away from hosting the Special Olympics New York Long Island Region Spring Games, presented by Northwell Health and in partnership with the Town of Oyster Bay. We are pleased to welcome more than 50 teams and 500 athletes to Berner Middle School tomorrow morning for a great day of competition and camaraderie.
We’re also taking a moment to reflect on the last month of highlights from our learners and leaders. April was a short month with spring break, but had lots of great events along with ongoing meaningful moments in the classrooms. We welcomed back about two dozen Massapequa graduates for the 19th annual Alumni Career Day at the Ames Campus. Students at our elementary schools celebrated Earth Day and shared wonderful ideas for taking care of the planet. For the 17th time, the district earned the prestigious Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation. These stories and much more are featured in the latest editions of the Massapequa Minute and Moment.

Tuesday, May 19 is our annual budget vote and Board of Education trustee election. Over the next few weeks, I will be joined by Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations Ryan Ruf in hosting budget presentations around the district and we hope you will take advantage of one of these opportunities to learn more about next year’s proposed spending plan.
And sorry kids (and parents), but I must inform you of an important calendar change. Friday, May 22 is a regular day of school as a snow make-up day. But thankfully, the snow is long gone and the weather is finally getting warmer!
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Dr. William Brennan, Ed. D.
Superintendent of Schools
