Dear Lockhart Families: Next Tuesday, 11/18 is our 37th Annual Walk A Thon, the official kickoff event of Make A Wish! Following dismissal, students and staff can gather on the back lawn to drum up excitement for our Make A Wish campaign. Students will get lap sheets and stickers to record their laps and there will be plenty of items for sale with all proceeds going to our Make A Wish donation. As always, there will be hot cocoa, cookies, and items for sale from our Student Council. The new addition to this year is the student raffles. With the purchase of the "Lucky Ducks," students will receive a raffle ticket to potentially win an experience/activity with our teachers. Many teachers have come up with fun activities that will take place at either 8:00 or during lunch/recess. A list of the activities is below as well as the list of items for sale. There will also be a face painting table with Ms. Ahearne and two special guests. We hope everyone can attend and make this our best Walk A Thon yet!

Dear Lockhart Families: It's incredible to even think we are here already but it's Make A Wish season! If there is one part of the Lockhart community that is near and dear to everyone's heart, it's Make A Wish. This will be our 37th year of running a Make A Wish campaign, the longest running school campaign in the country. Throughout the year, we do so much to give back to others, but Make A Wish is the most meaningful and impactful to our students. This is not just about raising money. Our students, staff, and families all know that they have a direct impact on one family's life, giving them a memory and hope in a time when they might not have much of that. Every year we ask for your donations in various ways. Whether it be a straight donation, purchasing raffle tickets, buying items from Student Council, or participating in our Make A Wish events. Any way you contribute goes directly to helping a family and most importantly, a child, who is going through something no one should. Our kids know this, which makes it even more meaningful to them. For the next 7 weeks, our collection will run in all of these ways. More emails will come out about our annual Walk-A-Thon event on Tuesday, 11/18, the items being raffled off by the PTA, and other events we have planned. For now, below is the link to our donation website and the QR code. Last year, we set a record with over $15000 in total donations and we hope to break that record again!

Dear Grade 4 and 5 Parents: During the year, several staff members run after school clubs. We are happy to announce the return of our SADD Club for our 4th and 5th grade students, with a new Mindfulness component! SADD empowers students to make healthy choices and lead positive lives. The club’s mission is to provide young people with the tools to prevent destructive decisions related to underage drinking, drug use, and unsafe behaviors — while encouraging kindness, leadership, and community involvement. This year, students will also explore mindfulness to support their emotional well-being. If you are interested in having your child join the club, please use the link below to sign up. This memo was also sent home via hard copy.

Dear Lockhart Families: This morning was one of the most special events of the year, with our annual Veterans Day Ceremony. Over 20 Veterans from AMVETS Post 88 and VFW Post 7763 joined us, so we can give thanks for their service. Along with our Student Council, two veterans, Mr. Colfer and Mr. Scheiner spoke beautifully about service and leadership. Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joe Saladino also spoke to the crowd, reinforcing the fact that the freedoms we enjoy today were due to the service and dedication of our veterans. Our 5th Grade Chorus performed at the end, and to finish it off, the veterans walked through the canyon of students waving American Flags, giving high fives to all with the song "God Bless the USA" playing over the speakers. It truly is a moving moment that brings tears to everyone's eyes. We want to thank everyone for being a part of this special day. Below is the link to the Roll Call Video we show during the ceremony, showing all the veterans that are part of the Lockhart family. We hope you enjoy.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This is a reminder that all confidential health documents (i.e., physicals, doctor’s notes, etc.) must be submitted using the Student Document Upload Ecollect Form available in the Parent Portal. If you are creating an account for the first time, it will be set up when you submit your first document. To begin, click Sign In, enter your email and Parent Portal password, then click Register, agree to the terms, and click Register again. Once registered, you will be able to upload documents for all children linked to your account.

If you already have an account and are unable to sign in using your username and password, please select Forgot Password. Please note that passwords do not sync between the Parent Portal and the Student Document Upload Ecollect Form. We recommend using the same password for both accounts to simplify access.

We kindly ask that you do not email these documents. If you have any questions about uploading documents, please contact your school’s health office.

Dear 5th Grade Chorus Families: On Monday, November 10th at 9:15, we have our annual Veterans Day Ceremony at Lockhart. During this important ceremony, we gather to honor those who have sacrificed their life for ours. As part of the ceremony, our 5th Grade Chorus and members of the Student Council perform songs and have speaking parts. In addition to our honored Veteran guests, our Grades 3-5 students, members of the Board of Education, District Administration, PTA Board, and local politicians will be in attendance. We also invite no more than 2 family members for each member of the 5th grade chorus. While we wish we could invite more, we can only fit so many in the GP room. If you choose to attend, the doors will open at 9:05, with the ceremony beginning promptly at 9:15. As stated above, no child can have more than two family members attend and please, no younger siblings. We hope you understand this, as we are lucky enough to be able to invite as many as we do.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Dear Lockhart Families: We will be utilizing the blacktop for the parade. There are cones around the perimeter. Please line the grass as we want to keep the blacktop clear for the students and staff. We will be exiting the basketball court doors, walking along the blacktop, entering in the Grade 2/3 dismissal door, and then doing a second lap.

Dear Lockhart Families: Tomorrow is one of our favorite days of the year with our Halloween Parade! The parade will begin at 9:15 and take place in the back of Lockhart. As of now we are monitoring the weather, and if the back grass is too muddy, we are going to pivot to an alternate route around the blacktop. We do not want to ruin the children's costume and will make a decision in the morning. The original route involves the blacktop path used for dismissal, going across the grass, and then heading towards the gym with a second lap to follow. The map and directions are below. If we strictly use the blacktop, students will exit the basketball court doors, loop around the blacktop, head back into the school, and then do a second lap. If this is the case, parents are asked to remain on the grass and keep the blacktop clear. We are looking forward to a great day and can't wait to see all the costumes!

Dear Lockhart Families: Throughout the year, students work on their iReady My Path program both in the classroom and at home. Students are expected to pass 2 lessons each week, in both Math and Reading. The program is designed to teach the students at their level, which make it accessible to all. We also find it important to celebrate the successes of our students on this program. It's not always the one who passes the most, it's not always the ones with the highest scores. Students who show growth, work hard, and see the importance of the program are just as deserving. Each month, we highlight students with our iReady Stars Award. Students names are called over the loud speaker during morning announcements and they can come to the office to pick a prize. They are also posted on the school website. Below is the link to our iReady Stars in Math for the month of October.

Dear Lockhart Families: This is the final week of our Give Back Back Pack Drive. This wonderful charity drive benefits the With Purpose Foundation, and will give the donated back packs to students and schools in need. It's very simple, go through your closets or attic and find your old back packs to donate. There will be bins in the main lobby where the students can drop them off. You can also add new or unused school supplies into the back packs to help further the drive. The goal is to fill an entire end zone with back packs! Below is a link to the flyer with more information.

Dear Lockhart Families: Continuing with our attempts to keep our kids safe, another dangerous thing happening is parents parking in the staff parking lot during drop off and pick up. As a reminder from the memo that gets sent home at the beginning of the year, please do not park in the staff parking lot for morning drop off or dismissal pick up. We have staff that arrive at different times and this poses an extremely dangerous scenario when there are moving cars in the lot. This is even more important during dismissal. No families are allowed to park in the staff parking lot during pickup. Students walk behind cars and cannot be seen by staff. It is very unsafe for both the adults and students. Please park on the streets and walk to the dismissal areas in the back of the school. Also, there have been multiple incidents where students were running in the parking lot with their parents a far distance behind. Please keep your children with you when you exit the lot, whether it is immediately from dismissal or after you have given your child time on the playground. We do not want to see someone get hurt. Thank you for your help.

Dear Lockhart Families: I'm writing to address a situation we are having with After School Club pickup. As you know, when students dismiss at either 3:40 or 4:00 from their After School Clubs, our Pittsburgh Crossing Guard is gone for the day. This can already cause for a dangerous situation for students. What is making it more dangerous, is parents or guardians are parking directly on the crosswalk in front of the building. We respectfully ask that this stop immediately. We have students who cross Pittsburgh Ave. to walk directly home on their own. They are having trouble seeing past the cars and there is no safe zone for them to walk. At that time, there could also be cars heading East/West on Pittsburgh, or east on Ocean Ave. An incident almost occurred the other day where two students could have been hit because they were not able to safely cross in the cross walk. Going forward, please do not park in the cross walk when picking up your children from After School. If you have a family member who does the pickup, please inform them as well. The safety of our children is our number one priority. I have also reached out to our local POP Officers to see if there is anything they can do to help with the situation. Thank you for helping.
