Dear Lockhart Families: Every year, Student Council runs a fundraiser called "Pencils For A Purpose," in which they sell pencils to students and donate money to a charity. This year, our Student Council has chosen The Ronald McDonald House and will make a donation in the name of Emma Rose Angelillo. From 5/14-5/20, Student Council will be selling special pencils for $2 in every classroom. Please consider donating to this wonderful cause. Dear Lockhart Families: This is the last call for all new and used soccer gear! A current student at Massapequa High School is running a collection for his Eagle Scout project. Samba 360 is looking for new and used Soccer equipment for collections. Every year, Samba 360 donates new and used soccer equipment to families who are unable to provide this equipment to their children. If you have any new or used cleats, balls, jerseys, soccer shorts, or shin guards please bring them to Lockhart and drop them in the bin in the front vestibule. The collection will end on Friday. Dear Lockhart Families: On Thursday, May 22, Lockhart will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on the back blacktop. This is a student and staff event only and we invite the entire school to wear Red, White, and Blue to honor this day. Also, over the next three weeks, we are having a Memorial Day Food Collection to benefit the United Veterans Beacon House, an organization that supports Veterans and Veteran's families. Dear Lockhart Families: We are excited for the Kindergarten playground construction to begin on Monday! Everything is right on schedule, with the demolition at multiple buildings now complete. While you may have questioned the inactivity this week, it was all in the plan. Construction should be complete by May 16 and then it will be ready to use! We know our Kindergarten is very excited and we are certain they will love the new playground. Our arrival procedures will remain the same, but there will certainly be more machinery and equipment in that area beginning next week.

Dear Lockhart Families: Earlier today, one of our neighboring schools conducted an emergency drill. As a precaution, we placed our school in a lockdown upon receiving the district alert. Dear Lockhart Families: Our Fifth Grade Mets game fundraiser is almost at its deadline. Tickets must be purchased by this Friday. Our Fifth Graders will be singing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch of the May 28 game against the White Sox. Tickets are $25 and it is open to the entire school to attend. Any 5th grade student who is singing must purchase a ticket with their family as well. This is a great way to get Lockhart families together and also watch our kids perform! Dear Lockhart Families: On Friday, April 25, we will conduct our fourth and final Lockdown Drill. Students and staff will be made aware of the drill. Dear Lockhart Families: We want to remind all of our Lockhart First Responders that our 2nd annual First Responder Appreciation Day is on June 3rd! You must sign up using the link below if you want to attend and participate. If you are or have a family member who is a First Responder, we would love to have you speak to the class and then attend the session on the back field run by the Nassau County Police Department. This is absolutely one of the most memorable days of the year. Already attending and helping facilitate the entire day is the Nassau County Police Commissioner, along with a Mounted Police Unit, K9 Unit, Motorcycle Unit, Special OPS, POP Officers, Massapequa Fire Dept., and EMS. All units will be bringing vehicles to park around the back of Lockhart and on the back blacktop path. These vehicles and horses will begin with a parade and then all grades will spend time visiting the stations. Dear Lockhart Families: Upon return from break, our Kindergarten Playground construction will be under way. Until we figure out the scope of the work area, we are adjusting our arrival procedures for Pittsburgh Ave. All families will gather on the front patio and students will enter the Front Doors. Also, the car dropoff line will be moved up to the Stop Sign in front of the building. For April 22-25, NCPD will be there to assist with this change. We are asking that no soccer or other sports be played on the front lawn during this time. After reassessing the construction, if we are able to return to our normal procedures while construction is ongoing, we will adjust.

Dear Parents of Grade 3-8 Students, Last week we paused our ELA assessments due to technical issues with the state. We understand this was disappointing and frustrating for everyone involved. We have received assurances that the system is ready to go, and we are committed to completing the assessment as planned. Session II of the New York State English Language Arts (ELA) Assessment is scheduled to take place on April 23, 2025. You can expect additional follow-up from your buildings on Tuesday, April 22.
