Dear Lockhart Families: We are so proud to announce that our 2nd annual Give Back Back Pack Drive is going to run through the month of October. Even more amazing, is that this year, every school in Massapequa will be participating! This wonderful charity drive benefits the With Purpose Foundation, and will give these back packs to students and schools in need. It's very simple, go through your closets or attic and find your old back packs to donate. There will be bins in the main lobby where the students can drop them off. You can also add new or unused school supplies into the back packs to help further the drive. The goal is to fill an entire end zone with back packs! Below is a link to the flyer with more information.

Dear Lockhart Families: Throughout the year, teachers offer Extra Help sessions on Monday mornings, from 8:05-8:40. During this time, students should attend if they need support in a specific area. This is helpful if they are struggling to understand a particular concept in one of the core subjects. The Extra Help time is not meant to complete homework from the night before. Our first session will begin this coming Monday, 9/29. Please bring your child to the front door for an 8:00 opening. Students will then be sent to their rooms.

Dear Lockhart Families: Today is the last day to sign up for our Extracurricular Clubs. Please use the link below to sign up. In the event there are more interested students than available openings in a club, a lottery system will be used to determine participation in any given club. Prior to the first meeting, the club advisor will send confirmation of your child’s participation and a detailed schedule. To ensure that all children have a chance to participate, as well as maintain effective student-to-teacher ratio, students may only partake in a maximum of two clubs. There is more information in the link.

Dear Lockhart Families: Tomorrow is our School Photo Day. Send in your kids dressed their best for those amazing school photos. Students will take both their individual and class photo tomorrow. Say cheese!

Dear Lockhart Families: Something we are very proud of at Lockhart is our Book Swap Cart. Created last year, we transform an old cart into a permanent Book Swap Cart, where students can bring in books from home that they do not read anymore, place them on the cart, and take home another book they would like to read. It's free, it's easy, and it gives kids the chance to read something new! The cart was beautifully painted by our Art Teacher, Ms. Ahearne, and the kids love shopping each week. If you have any children's books at home that you would like to send in, have your child bring them in and swap them out. The cart is outside the Library every day of the year.

Hello Massapequa!
It’s that time! After nearly a year in the making, we’re proud to share a video capturing the heart, spirit, and pride of Massapequa: our students, our staff, and our community.
More than words, this is the story of our commitment — a community built on connection, tradition, and the belief that together we can unlock a world of possibility for every child. In just 2 minutes and 43 seconds, this video reaffirms our vision: “Creating Leaders… One Child at a Time.”
I hope you enjoy it, and I invite you to share this inspiring message. Now, let’s get to the show. 💙💛

Dear Lockhart Families: It's hard to believe that tomorrow is the first day of school. While I'm writing this email with great excitement, I'm also writing it with a heavy heart. For the second time this year, Lockhart has endured a tragedy that is heartbreaking. This is now the second time I'm writing to you all after losing a Lockhart family member. Today's funeral was filled with extreme sadness, but we also once again saw how the Lockhart and Massapequa family is strong. While the Rudolph family lost a piece of their life, they have also gained the love and support of so many. Once again, we have shown how much we truly care for each other. Our Lockhart staff is no different, and while every teacher loves a summer vacation, we are also filled with joy to welcome to kids back! As always, we will focus on doing our best to not only teach the kids academically, but how to care for and support each other. We hope everyone gets a good night's sleep, has a great morning, and is looking forward to walking through the doors to start the 2025-26 school year!
Sincerely,
Mr. DeLuca & Mrs. Vecchione

Dear Lockhart Families: We are so excited to welcome everyone back to the 2025-2026 school year! The hallways are buzzing with excitement from new and returning staff. The building looks amazing and is ready to go for all our students. We know the summer is not over and we want you all to enjoy the Labor Day weekend, but we are also looking forward to the energy that our kids bring to the building everyday. The first day of school is always a memorable one and Tuesday will be no different. Below is some important information about the school year.
Every student in Massapequa has the opportunity to get FREE lunch this year! This includes the first lunch given each day. If a child wants a second lunch item or snack, they must purchase that using their My School Bucks account.
Cell phones and Smart Watches are not permitted at all during the school day. They are both to be off and in the back pack. This is especially important for Smart Watches as they are the exact same thing as a phone. This is a NY State Mandate and will not be allowed on any occasion. Massapequa has had this policy in place for a number of years so it is no different for us. Please understand that your child is safe and if you absolutely needed to get in contact with them during the day, you can call the school and we will relay the message. No student should be wearing a Smart Watch and communicating with their family during the day.
With the changing of the bus zone last year, there were many additional families eligible that had not been in previous years. However, many families did not use the bus at all. If you never plan on using the bus for dismissal, please send an email or note so we can accurately mark our dismissal list. We want to make sure students are going where they need to at the end of the day.
Our Back To School Night is Monday, September 8. This is an opportunity to meet your child's teacher and understand what to expect this year. Please remember this is a parent only evening.
We know that dismissal plans may change from time to time due to something happening in your life. Please make sure to send your child in with a note so we know where to dismiss your child.
During arrival, we have a Car Drop Off Line and the opportunity to walk your child to the door on both Pittsburgh and Baltimore. If you are utilizing the Car Drop Off Line, this is meant to be a quick exit by the child only. If your child needs assistance getting out of the car, we kindly ask that you park on the neighboring streets and then walk your child to the door. We cannot have cars backing up the Drop Off Line.
Enjoy the last remaining days of summer vacation and we look forward to a great school year!
Sincerely,
Mr. DeLuca and Mrs. Vecchione

Dear Lockhart Families: Every year, our School Nurse is in the building to collect medicine from families as we get closer to the first day of school. This year, if you need to drop off medication, medical notes, or update information, please do so on 8/25, 8/26, or 8/28 between the hours of 9:00-1:00. Thank you for helping to make the start of the school year a smooth one.
