Dear Lockhart Families: Next week, we will celebrate our annual Respect/Kindness Week! Typically celebrated in January as Random Acts of Kindness Week, we celebrate our own week as it is usually done during our very busy PARP and Spotlight season. At Lockhart, we feel that kindness should not be random, it should just be the way we are. Also, everyone deserves to be respected and it’s important that we teach our students this. Each day, our teachers will remind their students of all the conversations and hard work we are doing to display respect and inclusivity for all. They will also talk about the little things they could do each day to make our school a happy and safe place to learn and grow. We have put together some fun, non intrusive, activities that can be done each day and a couple easy dress up days. Something as simple as a student giving another student a compliment can go a long way. Please read the memo below which gives more information. We are also bringing back the highly popular Mix It Up Day. On Friday, March 20, during all lunch periods, students will get the opportunity to sit with different people and strike up conversations to get to know each other. With the help of our Social Worker, Ms. Pusateri, all students will be given a different color index card, which signals the lunch table they will sit at. Questions and conversation starters will be on the tables to help students. These are all fun and important messages for our kids to learn. The more opportunities we take to display the positive traits in ourselves, the better our children will be.

Dear Lockhart Families: It is with great pride that we announce our third annual First Responder Appreciation Day will take place on May 21. A save the date was sent out a few weeks ago to put it on your radar and below is the official flyer with the link to sign up and purchase a new t shirt if you are interested. On this day, we open our doors and classrooms to first responders who are part of the Lockhart community. If you are one or have someone in your family who is a first responder, we invite you to sign up to speak to your child's class about your job and how you help our community. We hope to have multiple speakers in all classrooms. As part of this day, all first responders are invited to a welcome breakfast at 8:00. Following this, all first responders will be brought to their respective classrooms for the speaking part of the day. Finally, the NCPD and Massapequa Fire Dept. will have multiple departments on the back field for the parade and stations. Commissioner Ryder runs the show and introduces all of the different types of units that make up the department. It is always one of the most special days of the year at Lockhart. Below is the link to register and purchase a T Shirt if you would like. All proceeds support the First Responders Foundation and the last day to order is April 3. We can't wait for this day to arrive and encourage all first responders to sign up!

Dear 5th Grade Families: There are a number of field trips and events coming up for our 5th Graders. We want to send an important reminder about cell phones and smart watches. As per District Policy, if a child has their cell phone on them, it should be turned off and in their draw string bag. Also, smart watches are not permitted during the school day at all, and therefore are not allowed to be worn on field trips. Please make sure your children are aware of this prior to their trips. Staff will also be reminding them as well.

Dear Lockhart Families: Each year, the placement process for making future classes is one of the most important, time consuming jobs we have. Multiple staff in the building discuss best placements for our students. Parents are also given the opportunity to give some input into the process, but understand that nothing is guaranteed and the overall decision lies with the school. Please click on the link to gain more information and use the link on the sheet to the google spreadsheet to enter your input. All responses are due by April 1.

Inside Out Concert for Grade 3

The Massapequa Fine & Performing Arts department would like to announce the 2026 Massapequa Philharmonic Inside Out Informance. The event is scheduled for Sunday, March 15, 2026, in the Berner Middle School Cafeteria at 1:00 pm. Third grade students will soon have the opportunity to select an instrument to begin playing next fall. The Inside Out Informance by the Massapequa Philharmonic is a wonderful way for your child to begin to explore possible instrument choices.

The Inside Out Informance is an opportunity for third grade students to sit inside the orchestra with the musicians and to experience what it is like to be in the ensemble. Following the Inside Out Informance, students can participate in the Instrument Meet and Greet; a time to speak with teachers and students, see the instruments up close, and ask questions.

The full schedule is:
12:45 pm: Students Arrive
1:00 pm: Inside Out Informance
1:30 pm: Instrument Meet & Greet
Seating is limited to 115 third grade students and a parent escort. To sign up your child for this exciting program, visit https://forms.gle/u6Tr2tLrofPGW58t9 to access the registration form.

We look forward to welcoming you to the music performance program here in Massapequa.

Musically yours,
Vincent Green

Dear Lockhart Families: It is with great pleasure to announce that Lockhart Elementary is hosting its 3rd annual First Responder Appreciation Day on May 21! With the help of Mrs. Delwey and the PTA, First Responder Appreciation Day will give our school the chance to thank and learn from the amazing emergency workers that we have right here in our community. The past two years were one of the most special days in Lockhart history and we are looking forward to welcoming the entire NCPD and all of their departments once again. Also, we need you! We are looking for our Lockhart Police Officers, Firefighters, EMS workers, Health Care workers, or anyone else in the First Responder category to come to and join us for the morning. If you are one or you have someone in your family that is a First Responder, we would love to have them come to Lockhart that morning and talk to your child's class. More information to come but save the date, May 21! We know you will need time to ensure you have the availability.

Dear Lockhart Families: Just to clarify, the 100 day t shirts is a Kindergarten activity, as they always either create T Shirts or dress like they are 100 years old. The T Shirts is not a school wide initiative. Sorry for the confusing message before.

Dear Lockhart Families: Friday, February 13th is a big day at Lockhart! We will be celebrating the 100th Day of School and PS I Love You Day! Both of these days are very special in the elementary setting and classes have fun activities planned throughout the day. The 100th Day of School is always special, especially for Kindergarten. Learning activities and fun games will revolve around the number 100 and students are invited to make special 100 Day t shirts to celebrate! PS I Love You Day is also a very important day in this country. Celebrated every year on the second Friday of February, PS I Love You Day invites communities to wear purple in order to foster kindness and a welcoming and caring environment. The message behind this day is promoting kindness, encouraging self-care, and reminding others that they are loved! While we are excited for the upcoming February break, Friday is special day at Lockhart.
