Dear Lockhart Families: Next week begins our annual PARP Week with our theme this year being the "Wizard of Oz!" From 1/29-2/6, we have fun activities planned to instill a love of reading in all. Some of the activities include our Kickoff event, an author visit with Peter Catalanotto, Book Reunion Day, and our annual Book Fair. The school and gym are being transformed into the wonderful world of Oz with decorations all around. Each night, kids should be reading at least 15 minutes and logging minutes via the QR code. We will update the totals through the week and our overall goal is 50,000 minutes. Top readers from each class will get a special prize of covering Mr. DeLuca in Silly String or potentially something new this year! Top classes will win extra recess, a pajama day, or something else they decide on. There are PTA at home reading activities as well and children can bring in their slips every morning for a chance to get pulled for a Homework Pass. We have fun dress up days planned as well starting with Black and White Day on 1/29. Just like the movie and book start in black and white, so will we! 2/4 is "Over the Rainbow Day" and each grade is assigned a different color to wear. Kindergarten-Red, 1st Grade-Orange, 2nd Grade-Yellow, 3rd Grade-Green, 4th Grade-Blue, 5th Grade-Purple. Parents have the opportunity to be a "Secret Reader" in their child's class. A packet with all the information and links was sent home last week. It includes the weekly calendar, dress up days, and other important information. There are links to all these items below. The most important thing is that kids should enjoy reading books in many different ways. It can be with a parent, sibling, in a corner, with a stuffy, over facetime...anything you can think of to have your child have fun reading. Please check out the information below.

Dear Lockhart Families: Throughout the year, we perform different safety drills so all staff and students are prepared if there is ever a real emergency. During this week, we will perform our third Lockdown Drill. As always, it is done in a safe, calm, and child appropriate manner and is never a surprise to the staff and students. Please know that we are taking many steps to keep our building safe, and this is an important piece.

Dear Lockhart Families: Our annual PARP week is approaching soon and one of the highlights is the Author Visit. This year, we are lucky to have Peter Catalanotto, author of books like "Ivan the Terrier" and "Emily's Art," come on 2/4 to meet with all grades to discuss his books, the writing process, and how they too can become authors! The students love listening to stories, asking questions, and reading his books in the Library in the weeks leading up to the visit. Mr. Catalanotto is offering his books for sale and any purchases book will be signed by him on the day he is here. Below is a link to where you can purchase his books online as well as a paper copy to print and send in.

Dear Lockhart Families: Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a fun and restful break with your families. Whether you were home all week or still doing your regular routine, it's always a great time with friends and family. We are excited to have the kids back in the building and I'm sure you are as well. As we gear up for the winter months, we want to take a moment to thank everyone for their generosity during Make A Wish season. As you know, this was our 37th annual campaign, the longest running in the country. We are so grateful for anything you were able to do to make this our most memorable year yet. We are happy to announce, that following our ceremony where we unveiled our $15,000 check for Make A Wish, more donations came in, bringing our total to $15,732! We are even more excited to announce that this is an all time record for Lockhart! We made the announcement at the end of the day on 12/23 and you can hear the cheering through the hallways. I say it in my speech every year. This is not just another fundraiser, this is not just another collection, this money directly goes to help a child living through a sometimes impossible situation. We are so thankful for everyone in the Lockhart community for helping.
