Dear MSD Parents/Guardians, We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to inform you of an important update regarding how we communicate with you about unverified student absences. In our ongoing efforts to improve communication and ensure easy access to notifications, we are transitioning from phone message alerts to text messages and emails for unverified absences. What This Means for You: • If your child is marked absent and the absence has not been verified, you will receive a text message and email instead of a phone call. • This new system will allow for quicker, more convenient communication and help ensure that you are promptly informed. As a reminder, all parents are asked to complete the Student Absence Notification Form located on the Parent Portal to inform the school of a verified absence. Thank you for your continued support with our communications. Sincerely, The Massapequa School District

Dear 5th Grade Families: With the end of year approaching, there are still amazing events we have planned for our 5th graders. Below are some reminders about those events. A memo was sent out about Moving Up already but we will send it again next week. 6/20 - Grade 5 students visit Berner Middle School 6/23 - Grade 5 Yearbook breakfast - at 9:00, all classes will come to GP Room to receive their yearbooks and a gift. 6/24 - Moving Up at McKenna - doors open at 8:40 and the ceremony begins at 9:00. It should last approximately one hour. After the ceremony, students will gather in the Senior Center to receive their diplomas and have cake. Students will dismiss from the Senior Center. Please be respectful while waiting outside on line as McKenna School is in session. 6/25 - 8:00am - we ask that all Grade 5 students arrive at 8:00am and all staff will meet in the GP room to sign the yearbooks. We are hopeful that those who cannot normally arrive at 8am can arrange different transportation. 6/27 - Last day of school! Dismissal is at 9:55 with all 5th grade students being clapped out the Baltimore Ave. exit door. Please gather around the back door and not the usual dismissal area.

Dear Lockhart Families: We are very excited to announce that our Kindergarten playground will officially open for the kids tomorrow! They have been patiently watching the construction and I'm sure they are ready to go. At 9:00, following our morning announcements, we are going to have a very short Ribbon Cutting Ceremony with our Kindergarten classes. We can't wait to watch their excitement! Also, starting Thursday morning, we are going back to our typical morning arrival procedures. We will pivot back to the Kindergarten playground area and will no longer use the Front Door. The car drop off line will move back to it's original spot as well.

Dear Lockhart Families: Our Kindergarten playground is complete and the kids will be able to use it next week! This is so exciting for them as we know they have been watching the construction unfold right in front of them. We want to thank the town of Massapequa and the District Office for helping us add such a wonderful playground to our school! We are going to have a small student and staff only Ribbon Cutting ceremony to open it up. On another note, the demolition of our main playground is set to start early next week. The kids will be able to use it until that happens but we anticipate Monday or Tuesday being the last day. The construction won't be done until early July, so for the remainder of the year the students will have the field and blacktop for recess. There will only be a handful of recess days left so we know the students will be able to manage. Thank you again!

Dear Lockhart Families: We are very excited for our Field Day 2025 on Friday, June 6! As always, it promises to be one of the most memorable days of the year. While it is fun for all, it is also a day where help is needed. If you are volunteering, please sign in at the Front Desk and take your bracelet. Only those parents on the Volunteer List will be allowed into the building. Also, please be mindful and exit the back field through the front doors when your volunteering time is up. We have over 200 parents attending and it will be too chaotic if everyone stays. We are so grateful that you can volunteer your time but the safety of our students is the top priority. If students have to go to the bathroom, we have plenty of staff that will take them in. We are keeping the school to students and staff only. Please remind your kids to wear sun block, a hat, and bring a full water bottle and sharpie (to sign shirts if wanted). If you have any questions, please reach out to the PTA.

Dear Fifth Grade Families: Our Moving Up Ceremony is approaching and we wanted to send home some information regarding the day. A memo was sent home yesterday with the children as well. The ceremony is June 24, 9:00, at McKenna School. Please drop the kids off between 8:20-8:30 in the Senior Center Parking Lot. Only students will exit the car and enter the Senior Center. No parents will be allowed in. Please exit the parking lot and find parking on the neighboring streets. The parent line will form at the front doors. Please be mindful that McKenna is in session that day. We will open the doors at 8:45. There are plenty of seats and not a bad seat in the house. There will be some reserved seats in the front for staff and PTA Board Members. Please do not sit in a seat with a Reserved Sign. If anyone has a family member with a serious health issue, and needs to have them sit in the lobby instead of standing on line, please reach out to me. The memo that was sent home with the kids is in the link below. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Pi3T5flyYgLFCxpT6fpGrsCG-xXlohG7/view?usp=sharing
