Dear Lockhart Families: Tomorrow begins Red Ribbon Week. This annual week runs from 10/23-10/31 and delivers the message to students about living drug free and making healthy life choices. Throughout the week, positive messages will be discussed, activities will be done in the classroom, and some fun dress up days will take place. We have some giveaways for the kids as well. Dear Fifth Grade Families: On Friday night at 7:30 at McKenna, our 5th grade students will be putting on their Circus Performance for their families. This is a great culminating event that displays all of the hard work the students put into practicing during the week. The performance will take place in the McKenna gym, and families can enter through the front door of the school. We ask that students get dropped off for 7:00, and we will open the door for families at 7:15. Please drive carefully when you enter the parking lot as the McKenna school has a Trunk or Treat event prior to our circus. We hope to see everyone there!
Dear Lockhart Families: Throughout the year, we perform different types of safety drills with the students. Once such drill is our Evacuation Drill. An evacuation would be utilized in case of certain emergencies, including a fire or gas leak. For this, we would walk to the Ames field, and then beyond if necessary, to then rally at our emergency location. For the purposes of our drill, we walk to the Ames field, turn around and return. Our Evacuation Drill will take place on Monday, October 27. Please see the link below with details about the drill.

It is one of the most special collections we do each year and everything we donate goes directly to the VA Hospital in Northport. Following our Veterans Day ceremony, members of the AMVETS Post 88 in Massapequa bring the boxes to the hospital, and they always tell us how grateful they are. When you are out shopping this weekend, please pick up an item or two to donate. Below is the link to the list.

Dear Lockhart Families: Our 2nd annual Give Back Back Pack Drive is ongoing and we are already receiving back packs! This amazing charity drive will run through the month of October, and even more amazing, is that this year, every school in Massapequa will be participating! This wonderful charity drive benefits the With Purpose Foundation, and will give these back packs to students and schools in need. It's very simple, go through your closets or attic and find your old back packs to donate. There will be bins in the main lobby where the students can drop them off. You can also add new or unused school supplies into the back packs to help further the drive. The goal is to fill an entire end zone with back packs! Below is a link to the flyer with more information.

Dear Lockhart Families: One of our favorite traditions at this time of year is the 5th Grade Literary Pumpkins! Kids turn pumpkins into their favorite book characters and we put the pumpkins on display for all to see. The amazing creativity of our students always amazes us. Mrs. Gonzalez sent everyone home with a flyer and instructions last week and while we would love the pumpkins to start arriving on Tuesday, kids can bring them in as they finish. They will be on display for multiple weeks. This is for our Fifth Grade students only. Take your time, work hard, and design a pumpkin that you are proud of! Below is the link to the flyer with more info.

Dear Lockhart Families: A long standing tradition and one of the most amazing days at Lockhart is its Veterans Day ceremony. Every year, we invite local Veteran groups, the Board of Education, our District Administration, local politicians, and other special guests to our Veterans Day ceremony. This day and everything that we do surrounding it truly embodies the spirit of Lockhart. Along with this day, we run a collection drive that donates items to the VA Hospital in Northport. These items go directly to Vets in need. A list of items for each grade was sent home and is also below. Along with our ceremony, our Computer TA Mrs. O'Hara, creates an amazing Roll Call Video, in which we highlight all of the Veterans we have in our Lockhart family. If you would like one of your family members to be included in the video, please upload their photo using the link below. There is also a spot to enter their name, Branch of Service, and rank. All photos are due by November 3.

Dear Lockhart Families: Over the next week, we will continue to practice our safety drills, including a Lockdown drill and fire drills. These are extremely important and always done in a safe, organized way. We will also inform the students and staff as to when the drills will take place.
Dear Lockhart Families: Next Wednesday, 10/22 is Unity Day. On this day, we wear orange to show support of kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. During the day, classes will take part in different activities that are being organized by our Social Worker, Ms. Pusateri. Tomorrow, 10/15, we are asking that everyone wear orange as well as we will be taking our annual school wide Unity Day photo on the back grass. This is one of our favorite traditions and the photo always comes out amazing. So again, for the next two Wednesdays, we ask that everyone wear orange. Thank you!
Dear Lockhart Families: Throughout the year, families have so much going on, that we sometimes even struggle to spend time with our own children. After school sports, clubs, homework, and other obligations tend to push quality time to the side. In an effort to take something off your plate every now and then, Massapequa and other districts have adopted Family Connect Nights, where no homework is assigned, to possibly help give you more time to be with your family. On these nights, we encourage families to watch a movie, play a board game, have a special dinner, or maybe make it an ice cream night! Starting in November, these dates will be on the calendar and the memo with more information is attached. We hope you are able to connect with your family on these nights!

Dear Lockhart Families: Due to the inclement weather tomorrow morning, our annual Walk/Bike to School Day activities will be pushed to Thursday morning. At arrival, our PTA will have a photo station, trivia, and other activities for students at the bike racks by the Baltimore gate. On this day, all students are encouraged to walk or bike to school to promote health and good habits. Also, we encourage everyone to wear Lockhart or Massapequa gear on this day. We can't wait to see all the bikes on Thursday morning! Tomorrow, our local POP Officers will still deliver their Bike Safety Assembly to all grades in the GP Room. We are so grateful that they are able to take time from their busy day to teach our kids about this important topic.
Dear 5th Grade Families: The first session of 5th Grade Sports Club will be TODAY, from 3:00-3:40. There was an incorrect start date on the initial information that went home. Students will also be calling home to confirm. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.

Dear Lockhart Families: Today is "Coffee With A Cop Day" and we were very lucky to have four of our local POP Officers come visit Lockhart! Today is a day that we can say thank for all they do for us. They started the morning by enjoying some coffee and bagels with our staff and were given dozens of cards created by our students. They were blown away by the creativity of the kids and were so appreciative of the warm welcome. It didn't end there as the four officers joined us at morning arrival, greeting every student as they walked in the door. They took pictures with some students and visited many classrooms, talking to the kids and thanking them for being so kind. We are so grateful to have so many families in law enforcement in this town, but are even more lucky to have the support and supervision of our Local Law Enforcement. These officers will also be back next week to deliver a Bike Safety Assembly to all grades. Please check out the photos on our school website and twitter!
