Dear Lockhart Families: We are so proud of all our students for reaching our school-wide reading goal of 50,000 minutes read during PARP week. Because of this, the top readers from each class get to cover Mr. DeLuca in silly string! This will take place tomorrow at 2:15. The entire school will gather in the gym and claim their prize! Again we want to thank all parents who helped us make PARP Week the best one yet.

Dear Lockhart Families: Each year, the placement process for making future classes is one of the most important, time consuming jobs we have. Multiple staff in the building discuss best placements for our students. Parents are also given the opportunity to give some input into the process, but understand that nothing is guaranteed and the overall decision lies with the school. Please click on the link to gain more information and use the google spreadsheet to enter your input. All responses are due by April 4.

Dear Lockhart Families: After a discussion with numerous people, we are unfortunately cancelling the 5th Grade Ducks game event. At no fault of anyone, it was scheduled on the same night as the All Elementary Concert practice. This was the only date provided to the 5th grade committee by the LI Ducks, but the All Elementary Concert is an important, district-wide event that cannot be conflicted with. Having the kids choose between the two is also unfair to them. We wish that both events were possible but unfortunately, that is not the case. We are looking forward to watching our students perform at the All Elementary Concert!

The district is happy to announce that the Massapequa Public Schools Annual Science Discovery Fair is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Berner Middle School. The event is open to all young scientists in grades K-8. This is a great opportunity for our budding scientists to investigate, explore, and report on those natural phenomena that stimulate their young, creative minds.
As a reminder, registration closes tomorrow, March 1, 2025.

Dear Lockhart Families: It is with great pleasure to announce that Lockhart Elementary is hosting its 2nd annual First Responder Appreciation Day on June 3! With the help of Mrs. Delwey and the PTA, First Responder Appreciation Day will give our school the chance to thank and learn from the amazing emergency workers that we have right here in our community. Last year was one of the most special days in Lockhart history and we are looking forward to welcoming the entire NCPD and all of their departments once again. Also, we need you! We are looking for our Lockhart Police Officers, Firefighters, EMS workers, Health Care workers, or anyone else in the First Responder category to come to and join us for the morning. If you are one or you have someone in your family that is a First Responder, we would love to have them come to Lockhart that morning and talk to the class. More information to come but save the date, June 3! We know you will need time to ensure you have the availability.

Dear Lockhart Families: The last week of PARP was Random Acts of Kindness Week. Because that was also our PARP Week, we will celebrate what we call Respect/Kindness Week next week. We feel that kindness should not be random, it should just be the way we are. Also, everyone deserves to be respected and it’s important that we teach our students this. Each day, our teachers will remind their students of all the conversations and hard work we are doing to display respect and inclusivity for all. They will also talk about the little things they could do each day to make our school a happy and safe place to learn and grow. We have put together some fun, non intrusive, activities that can be done each day. Something as simple as a student giving another student a compliment can go a long way. Please read the memo below which gives more information. We are also bringing back the highly popular Mix It Up Day, which was thought of by last year’s Student Council. On Friday, March 7, during all lunch periods, students will get the opportunity to sit with different people and strike up conversations to get to know each other. With the help of our Social Worker, Ms. Pusateri, all students will be given a different color index card, which signals the lunch table they will sit at. Questions and conversation starters will be on the tables to help students. These are all fun and important messages for our kids to learn. The more opportunities we take to display the positive traits in ourselves, the better our children will be.

Dear Lockhart Families: As part of our PARP Week, we are running a Book Fairies collection. If you are looking to get rid of some old books, Book Fairies is the best way to clean them out and give to a great cause at the same time. There are boxes in the main lobby for the rest of the week.

Dear Lockhart Families: We continued our 2025 PARP Week this morning with our Book Reunion Event! All students visited last year's classes for a reunion and our Kindergarten met with their 5th grade teaching buddies. The entire staff helped by being in the classrooms as well. Everyone loved being back together for this amazing event. Please continue to log those reading minutes and send in the Reading Slips everyday. We are over 32,000 minutes already!
