It’s not often that famous athletes, entertainers and scientists can be found together at an elementary school, but that was the case in Massapequa on May 15. Lockhart Elementary School held its annual living wax museum, the culminating activity for the second grade biography unit.
After doing extensive research on famous figures from the past and present, students stepped into their shoes. Dressed to resemble these notable subjects, second graders stood around the all-purpose room like wax museum figurines, and read their prepared speeches when guests came over. Parents, grandparents and siblings were invited to participate in the special event.
The famous people spanned more than 2,000 years from historical figures like Cleopatra and Johnny Appleseed, to modern stars such as Taylor Swift and Aaron Judge. The biography reports include each person’s birthdate and location, accomplishments and fun facts.
