Dear Elementary Parents/Guardians,
As we prepare for the start of the 2026-27 school year, we invite you to read the Massapequa Technology Information Letter: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Pw-02s3j_4Anrm5gyv3pcFT87-EMiit0m8HRZtmXK-Y/edit?tab=t.0
The letter contains important information about staying connected with the Massapequa School District, Parent Portal access, bus information if applicable, the absence notification form, student document upload form, student Chromebooks, the Clever Portal, Schoology, and technology resources and support.
Sincerely,
The Massapequa School District
Dear Lockhart Families: Every year, our School Nurse is in the building to collect medicine from families as we get closer to the first day of school. This year, if you need to drop off medication, medical notes, or update information, you may do so on 8/24-8/27 between the hours of 8:00-12:00. Also, on 9/1 between 8:00-2:00. If you are unable to make it on those days, you can always drop off on the first day of school, but that might be the busiest of days. Thank you for helping to make the start of the school year a smooth one.
Dear Lockhart Families: Please see the very important link below about Arrival & Dismissal procedures.

Dear Lockhart Families: We are so excited to welcome everyone back to the 2026-2027 school year! The final preparations in the building are underway and we are so excited to welcome our new and returning staff and families. The building looks amazing and is ready to go for all our students. We know the summer is not over and we want you all to enjoy the remaining weeks, but we are also looking forward to the energy that our kids bring to the building everyday. The first day of school is always a memorable one and September 2nd will be no different. Just a reminder that the Parent Portal will be available on 8/25 to check on your child's class. Below is some important information about the school year and some news about building updates.
There were several major building updates this year, including a newly redone gym floor and stage in the GP room. Also, construction is underway for a new back patio outside the K/1 dismissal doors. We are repurposing the engraved bricks and the picnic tables that used to be in the back playground. The area will be a 25x25 foot cement patio with four tables and the bricks will be infused into the border and middle area. This will be a great place for the classes to learn, staff to eat, and parents to congregate.
Once again, every student in Massapequa has the opportunity to get FREE lunch! This includes the first lunch given each day. If a child wants a second lunch item or snack, they must purchase that using their My School Bucks account.
Cell phones and Smart Watches are not permitted at all during the school day. They are both to be off and in the back pack. This is especially important for Smart Watches as they are the exact same thing as a phone. This is a NY State Mandate and will not be allowed on any occasion. Massapequa has had this policy in place for a number of years so it is no different for us. Please understand that your child is safe and if you absolutely need to get in contact with them during the day, you can call the school and we will relay the message. No student should be wearing a Smart Watch and communicating with their family during the day.
We know many families are eligible for the bus, but never intend to use it. If you never plan on using the bus for dismissal, please send an email to jfeola@msd.k12.ny.us or a note so we can accurately mark our dismissal list. We want to make sure students are going where they need to at the end of the day.
Our Back To School Night is Tuesday, September 8. This is an opportunity to meet your child's teacher and understand what to expect this year. Please remember this is a parent only evening.
We know that dismissal plans may change from time to time due to something happening in your life. Please make sure to send your child in with a note so we know where to dismiss your child.
During arrival, we have both a Car Drop Off Line and the opportunity to walk your child to the door on both Pittsburgh and Baltimore. If you are utilizing the Car Drop Off Line, this is meant to be a quick exit by the child only. If your child needs assistance getting out of the car, we kindly ask that you park on the neighboring streets and then walk your child to the door. We cannot have cars backing up the Drop Off Line.
More detailed information will be sent prior to and during the first week of school. Enjoy the last remaining days of summer vacation and we look forward to a great school year! Please click on the links below with more information from the district.

Dear Lockhart Families: While this letter was meant to go out next week, we felt the need to send it sooner due to the Instagram post by the District yesterday. Our music teacher, Mrs. Dyckman, will be taking a short leave for the beginning of the school year. The hope is that she returns after the new year and gets right back into the swing of things. While she is devastated to not be able to start the new school year, we know how important it is for her to take this time. In the meantime, we are excited to have Isabella Petz fill in as her Leave Replacement. Ms. Petz is a voice and piano teacher and performer from Long Island, New York. She recently graduated from Hofstra University with a degree in Music Education and a minor in Musical Theater. At Hofstra, she served as Music Director of Makin Treble, the university’s treble-voiced a cappella group, and performed with several vocal ensembles. Ms. Petz is passionate about helping students build confidence, develop strong musical skills, and find joy in expressing themselves through music. Ms. Petz will be in contact with Mrs. Dyckman throughout her time here and we are confident that she will do an amazing job.
Dear Kindergarten Families: We are excited to welcome you to the Lockhart family and the upcoming school year! This is a special milestone filled with new experiences, friendships, and opportunities for growth. Our staff is committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where every child can learn, explore, and thrive. We look forward to getting to know your family and working together to make this a successful and memorable year. While the school year officially starts on 9/2, here in Massapequa, we give our Kindergarten a brief introduction to their school year by having them come in for an hour to meet their teacher, their classmates, and explore the classroom. On this day, Kindergarten students will come to Lockhart from 10:00-11:00. All arrival will take place at the Kindergarten playground entrance on Pittsburgh Ave. Teachers and staff will meet the kids at the door and bring them in one class at a time. Parents are not allowed to enter the building. The kids will go to their rooms and the teachers will let them find their seats, have a class meeting, talk about the upcoming year, and have a brief activity for them to do. It is a great way to get them ready for their first full day of school on 9/3. Only on 9/2, dismissal for Mrs. Xip's, Ms. Riegel, and Mrs. Mollica's class will happen from the doors on the front lawn at 11:00. Mrs. Spinelli's class will dismiss by the Kindergarten playground. Class assignments are scheduled to be released on 8/25. In the meantime, we hope you can make the PTA Kindergarten Playdate on August 19th at 5:00. This will take place at the main playground in the back of the school. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
We can't wait to welcome our newest learners!
Sincerely,
Mr. DeLuca & Mrs. Vecchione

2026-27 School Year - Returning Students
Dear Grade 1-12 Parents/Guardians,
To ensure we have the most accurate and up-to-date information on file, the Massapequa School District requires all parents/guardians to annually review and update their child's demographic information, emergency contacts, and required district acknowledgements.
All PowerSchool contact 1 parents will be receiving an email from PowerSchool Enrollment. We ask that you please read this email and follow the directions to complete the form.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
The Massapequa School District
Dear Massapequa Community,
Today’s Air Quality Index is forecasted to be at an unhealthy level for the duration of today, July 16, 2026. As a result, we have required that all extended school year, summer recreation, and sports camp activities be moved indoors. All indoor field trips will remain as scheduled.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Sincerely,
The Massapequa School District
Dear Lockhart Families: As part of Summer Rec safety regulations, they are required to have safety drills so students know what to do in case of an emergency. They are the same drills we do during the school year and are always done in a calm manner. Either today or tomorrow, we will be doing a Lockdown Drill. Students and staff are aware and we know it will go smooth as always.
We want to make you aware that a staff member at East Lake Elementary School experienced a medical emergency earlier today that required an ambulance response.
All students were safe throughout the incident and were not affected. The staff member is currently receiving medical care.
Sincerely,
The Massapequa School District

All Grade 4 students will exchange their currently assigned Chromebook for a new Chromebook on the date provided by their classroom teacher.
Please note the following:
If applicable, please remove any personal protective cases from the Chromebook.
Students need to bring their current fully charged Chromebook and charger to school on the date indicated by their classroom teacher.
Students will keep their current Chromebook bag.
The new Chromebook will have a district-issued protective cover that must remain attached at all times. (This is in addition to their Chromebook bag that must be used when the Chromebook is not in-use.)
The new Chromebooks may have limited/no battery charge. Teachers have been informed and will plan accordingly.
Thank you,
The Massapequa School District
Dear Fifth Grade Families: Our Moving Up Ceremony is a week away, being held on June 24, 9:00, at McKenna School. Please drop the kids off between 8:20-8:30 in the Senior Center Parking Lot. Only students will exit the car and enter the Senior Center. No parents will be allowed in. Please exit the parking lot and find parking on the neighboring streets. The parent line will form at the front doors. Please be mindful that McKenna is in session that day. We will open the doors at 8:40. There are plenty of seats and not a bad seat in the house. There will be some reserved seats in the front for staff, District Admin, and PTA Board Members. Please do not sit in a seat with a Reserved Sign. If anyone has a family member with a serious health issue, and needs to have them sit in the lobby instead of standing on line, please reach out to me. Also, June 24 is a half day of school and students will be dismissed following the ceremony. No fifth grade students will return to the building. Please mark your calendars and more information will be forthcoming. Below is a map and the memo with more information.
