Dear Lockhart Families: Due to the heat index at the time of our Flag Day Ceremony, we have been advised to hold the ceremony indoors. This will now be a staff and student ceremony only. We hope you understand and hope you have a wonderful day.
Dear Lockhart Families: On Thursday, at 1:45, we will have our annual Flag Day Ceremony on the front porch. Parents are invited to attend and the ceremony should be about 15-20 minutes. Members of our 4th grade Chorus and 5th Grade Band will perform a song. Everyone is invited to wear Red, White, and Blue!

Dear Lockhart Families: We are very excited for Field Day tomorrow! It is one of the most fun days of the year and we hope we have beautiful weather to go along. A few reminders about the day: Only those parents on the Volunteer List will be allowed to enter. Please check in in the Front Lobby and get your wristband. Once your volunteer time is up, we do ask that you exit the field back through the front of the building. It gets difficult when the amount of people pile up towards the end of the day. Also, no students are permitted to be signed out early. All parents will be asked to leave the back around 2:25. At that time, students and staff will take a picture and then head back inside to their classrooms. We will then have our regular dismissal. We want to thank all of our parents for helping to make this such a special day.
Please refer to the important letter below containing important information in reference to health examinations for students entering Grades 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 in September 2026. If you have any questions, please contact the school health office.

In our school district, students receive new Chromebooks in grades K, 5, and 9. For students entering 5th grade, devices are usually distributed at the end of 4th grade.
This year, due to delays in device availability, your child will receive their new Chromebook at the beginning of 5th grade.
We will share more information after the start of the new school year.
Thank you,
The Massapequa School District
Dear Lockhart Families: We are very excited for our 2026 Field Day on Friday, June 6! As always, it promises to be one of the most memorable days of the year. While it is fun for all, it is also a day where help is needed. If you are volunteering, please sign in at the Front Desk and take your bracelet. Only those parents on the Volunteer List will be allowed into the building. Also, please be mindful and exit the back field through the front doors when your volunteering time is up. We have over 200 parents attending and it will be too chaotic if everyone stays. We are so grateful that you can volunteer your time but the safety of our students is the top priority. If students have to go to the bathroom, we have plenty of staff that will take them in. We are keeping the school to students and staff only. As a reminder, no student will be permitted to be signed out early. All staff and students will return to their classrooms once the field is clear and normal dismissal will take place. Please remind your kids to wear sun block, a hat, and bring a full water bottle and sharpie (to sign shirts if wanted). If you have any questions, please reach out to the PTA.
Dear 5th Grade Families: Tomorrow is the 5th Grade Field Trip to Driftwood and I know the kids are excited. It is always a special day and the Camp Counselors do a wonderful job making sure the kids have a great time. While it is a fun day for all, we want to make sure that our students show the camp and it's employees respect. Please make sure to talk to your children tonight about proper behavior towards each other and the camp itself. This is a school field trip and we want to make sure nothing jeopardizes our reputation. There are many activities for the kids to take part in, including sports, trapezes, a ninja warrior course, and a pool. Please remind your children to be safe at all times, especially in the pool. Students should dress appropriately for the day as it is going to be sunny and should bring plenty of water and sunscreen. Dress should be appropriate for the pool as well and we ask that girls wear a one piece bathing suit. We are very excited for our students and know they will have a great time.
Dear Lockhart Families: If you are interested, make sure to take advantage of the School Supply sale held by our PTA. The kits come pre-made with all of the supplies on the grade level supply list. This one stop shop is an easy way to ensure you have what you need for the beginning of the year. Use the link below to order.

Dear Lockhart Families: We are very excited for our 2026 Field Day on Friday, June 5! At 2:30, all parents will exit the field and the students and staff will take a group photo. After that, all students and staff will head to their classrooms to pack up and get ready for regular dismissal. At 2:45, we will reopen the gates so families can go to their dismissal doors. If you have any questions about the day, please reach out to the PTA.
Dear Lockhart Families: With the end of the year quickly approaching, this coming Monday, June 1, will be the final Monday of Extra Help.
Dear Fifth Grade Families: Our Moving Up Ceremony is approaching and we wanted to send home some information regarding the day. A memo will be sent home with the children next week. The ceremony is June 24, 9:00, at McKenna School. Please drop the kids off between 8:20-8:30 in the Senior Center Parking Lot. Only students will exit the car and enter the Senior Center. No parents will be allowed in. Please exit the parking lot and find parking on the neighboring streets. The parent line will form at the front doors. Please be mindful that McKenna is in session that day. We will open the doors at 8:40. There are plenty of seats and not a bad seat in the house. There will be some reserved seats in the front for staff, District Admin, and PTA Board Members. Please do not sit in a seat with a Reserved Sign. If anyone has a family member with a serious health issue, and needs to have them sit in the lobby instead of standing on line, please reach out to me. Also, June 24 is a half day of school and students will be dismissed following the ceremony. No fifth grade students will return to the building. Please mark your calendars and more information will be forthcoming.
Dear Lockhart Families: Tomorrow morning, Lockhart will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on the back blacktop. This is a student and staff event only and we invite the entire school to wear Red, White, and Blue to honor this day. Several Veterans from AMVETS will be in attendance as well. It is a beautiful ceremony filled with student speeches and songs. Also, our food collection will be picked up and brought to the Long Island Veteran's Pantry. Thank you to everyone who donated to this wonderful cause.
Dear Lockhart Families: We are working with NCPD right now to reschedule the outside portion of our day tomorrow. They are concerned about the rain and do not want the kids to miss out on the experience. We are looking at 6/16 as the new date. We know this is disappointing but pivoting to an inside parade would not carry the same weight and it would not be anywhere close to what it is outside.
The rest of the morning will go on as scheduled. The breakfast for First Responders will be at 8:00. From there, Student Council members will bring the First Responders to the classrooms at 8:50. We are going to extend the classroom portion to allow for more time for the rooms multiple speakers. Details about that will be sent out soon. We are very excited to have our First Responders in the building and show them the appreciation they deserve.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are writing to bring your attention to a dangerous trend that has recently emerged on social media. This trend encourages users to microwave gel-filled toys, such as NeeDoh and similar products. These actions can cause the toys to rupture or explode, potentially resulting in serious burns and injuries.
As a community, it is important that we stay informed about emerging trends that may unknowingly put our children at risk. We believe it is essential to make you aware of this particularly hazardous behavior involving popular toys so that you can discuss it with your child or children, if appropriate. The safety of our students remains our top priority.
As always, we encourage parents and guardians to maintain ongoing conversations with their children about responsible social media use, the importance of sound judgment, and the potential risks and consequences associated with participating in viral challenges.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Sincerely,
The Massapequa School District
