Dear Lockhart Families: As of this morning, we have logged over 40,000 minutes read as a school! We are almost at our goal of 50,000 minutes. Remember, the top two readers from each class get to cover Mr. DeLuca in Silly String. Keep logging those minutes and come in with the At Home Reading Activity slips. Fill them out every night and bring them to the Main Office for a chance to win a Homework Pass! The link to the paper is below.

Each grade is wearing a different color! Kinder – Red, 1st – Orange, 2nd – Yellow, 3rd – Green, 4th – Blue, 5th - Purple. Dear Lockhart Families: In conjunction with NCPD, we will be performing another Lockdown Drill tomorrow. As always, these are done in safe, calm, and grade appropriate ways and will not be a surprise to staff or students. Please know that we are taking many steps to keep our building safe, and this is an important piece.
Dear Lockhart Families: Every year, our Student Council runs different charity drives. One of it's favorite and most thoughtful is their "Soup-er Bowl Drive." From now until 2/6, Student Council is asking for donations of cans of soup that will be donated to the St. Rose Food Pantry. There will be boxes in the main lobby where students can drop their cans of soup and vote for who think they will win the Super Bowl. Please consider donating to this wonderful cause.

Dear Lockhart Families: Tomorrow begins PARP Week! This is a week of instilling the love of reading into our children. Reading is much more that tests and grades. It is about opening your mind and diving into the world of the story. What better world than the Land of Oz. The building has decorations and special PARP themed messages all around. Activities have been planned for the week and everyone is very excited for it to begin. Remember to read every night and log your minutes using the QR code on the Parent letter attachment below. This memo was also sent home. Our Kickoff Event is tomorrow night and the staff and students are all looking forward to that as well! Please remember it is not a dropoff event. The Book Fair will also being going on in the gym from 5:45-7:30. Tomorrow's dress up theme is Black and White day as we get set to travel from Kansas to the Land of Oz!

Dear Lockhart Families: With the impending weather on the horizon for Sunday, we will be cancelling Extra Help on Monday so all staff and families have plenty of time to get situated and come to school if we are open. All students will be coming home with their Chromebooks today in the extreme case that we are closed for 3+ days.
Dear Lockhart Families: Next week begins our annual PARP Week with our theme this year being the "Wizard of Oz!" From 1/29-2/6, we have fun activities planned to instill a love of reading in all. Some of the activities include our Kickoff event, an author visit with Peter Catalanotto, Book Reunion Day, and our annual Book Fair. The school and gym are being transformed into the wonderful world of Oz with decorations all around. Each night, kids should be reading at least 15 minutes and logging minutes via the QR code. We will update the totals through the week and our overall goal is 50,000 minutes. Top readers from each class will get a special prize of covering Mr. DeLuca in Silly String or potentially something new this year! Top classes will win extra recess, a pajama day, or something else they decide on. There are PTA at home reading activities as well and children can bring in their slips every morning for a chance to get pulled for a Homework Pass. We have fun dress up days planned as well starting with Black and White Day on 1/29. Just like the movie and book start in black and white, so will we! 2/4 is "Over the Rainbow Day" and each grade is assigned a different color to wear. Kindergarten-Red, 1st Grade-Orange, 2nd Grade-Yellow, 3rd Grade-Green, 4th Grade-Blue, 5th Grade-Purple. Parents have the opportunity to be a "Secret Reader" in their child's class. A packet with all the information and links was sent home last week. It includes the weekly calendar, dress up days, and other important information. There are links to all these items below. The most important thing is that kids should enjoy reading books in many different ways. It can be with a parent, sibling, in a corner, with a stuffy, over facetime...anything you can think of to have your child have fun reading. Please check out the information below.
