Dear Ames Families
I am writing to inform you that our cafeteria is currently experiencing a heating issue. Please know that our facilities team is actively working to resolve the problem and to install temporary heating as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, we are reassigning students and staff to alternate classrooms during lunch periods to ensure everyone can eat in a comfortable environment. Our team has organized these spaces to maintain normal routines and minimize disruptions.
We will keep you updated as repairs progress and will notify you once the cafeteria is fully operational again. Please note that the lunch line remains accessible to students who will be purchasing lunch. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to maintain a comfortable environment for all students.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.
Sincerely,
Tania M. Willman, Principal

Dear Ames Families,
At this time, students have moved past the completion of their first high school midterm examination week and we are well into the third marking period. We encourage students to sit with their parents to review information available in the PowerSchool portal and discuss their progress thus far in the school year. It is the perfect time for students to reflect and create goals for the spring.
As a reminder, the grading breakdown for full year courses is as follows:
Quarter 1 20%
Quarter 2 20%
Midterm 8%
Quarter 3 20%
Quarter 4 20%
Final/Regents 12%
Please note that we will still continue to exercise a variety of emergency management drills throughout the remainder of the school year. This week, we will be conducting a lockdown drill. A school lockdown is a procedure used when there is an immediate and imminent threat inside the school building. In the event of a lockdown, parents will not be able to sign-out children until the circumstances have been deemed safe. We continue to work in collaboration with our District Security personnel and Nassau County Police Department in an effort to support the safety of all students and staff in our school community.
Looking ahead to next week, we will continue to offer students with opportunities for social and emotional learning. On February 9th and 10th, students will be participating in the Signs of Suicide (SOS) workshop through each of their mathematics courses. The program will be presented by Mrs. Kim Hession, our School Social Worker. Please feel free to reach out to the Pupil Personnel Office at (516) 308-5850 with any further questions about the SOS workshop. At the conclusion of that week on Friday, February 13th, all students and staff are invited to wear purple in support of P.S. I Love You Day and mental health awareness. For further information about the mission and goals of the organization, please view: http://psiloveyouday.net/.
Lastly, schools will be closed from Monday, February 16th through Friday, February 20th for winter recess. We wish our students and their families a wonderful second semester! Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or if we may be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Tania M. Willman, Principal

Dear Ames Families,
Good afternoon! As noted on the school district calendar, the Ames Winter Music Concert is taking place at 8pm on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 in the Baldwin Auditorium at Massapequa High School (Main Campus). We respectfully request that those who attend the concert stay for the full duration of the performance. When people in the audience enter and leave, they disrupt the concert and others who are trying to enjoy their child’s performance. Our students have practiced since the beginning of the school year and look forward to showcasing their exemplary work. In this regard, they all deserve our full attention and respect. In addition, barring an unforeseen emergency, no performing student will be permitted to leave the concert early.
We appreciate your cooperation and your efforts to ensure a full audience for our students’ performances. On behalf of Mr. Gilbert, Mr. Perticone, and Ms. Tymochko-Dekajlo, we welcome our Ames families to enjoy an outstanding musical performance. For further information specific to each ensemble, please visit the teacher’s Schoology page. We look forward to seeing you there!
Sincerely,
Tania M. Willman, Principal
