Dear Ames Families,

At the Ames Campus, students and staff are engaging in a One Book, One School initiative centered on Ground Zero by Alan Gratz. We are pleased to share several meaningful opportunities designed to deepen our students’ understanding of the events and lasting impact of September 11, 2001.

1. Assembly Program - Voices of 9/11: Stories of Service and Strength on Wednesday, October 29th

The Ames campus will host a special assembly featuring guest speakers who will share their personal connections to 9/11. Further information and a revised bell schedule for this day will be forthcoming.

2. 9/11 Museum & Memorial Field Trip

Students will have the opportunity to attend a field trip during the operation of the regular school day in which they will visit the 9/11 Museum and Memorial. Once the dates and times have been secured, permission slips will be processed through the English Language Arts (ELA) classes.

3. 9/11 T-Shirt Fundraiser

We are currently hosting a fundraiser through New Wave Outfitters, allowing students, staff, and families to purchase commemorative T-shirts. Proceeds will be donated to selected 9/11 charitable organizations. The FLYER includes order information. Upon conclusion of the ordering timeline and fulfillment of the orders, these items will be distributed to students in their homerooms.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Sincerely,

MHS-Ames Campus

Dear Ames Families,

Please note that we will still continue to exercise a variety of mandatory emergency management drills throughout the remainder of the school year.  We are notifying you that this week will include conducting a lockdown drill on Wednesday, October 8th. A school lockdown is a procedure used when there is an immediate and imminent threat inside the school building. In the event of a lockdown, parents will not be able to sign-out children until the circumstances have been deemed safe. We continue to work in collaboration with our District Security team and Nassau County Police Department in an effort to support the safety of all students and staff in our school community.

Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Tania M. Willman, Principal
