Dear Ames Parents/Guardians,
As we had shared with you prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, the Nassau County Police Department presented a program during this morning’s student assembly regarding awareness and the dangers of fentanyl. As a follow up to the student assembly program, we invite you to view the following video, and then encourage you to watch it together with your child: Dead on Arrival (Fentanyl Documentary).
The video is approximately 20 minutes in length. Please note that this video was not included in today’s presentation, but this video is a resource that can serve as an opportunity for you and your child to engage in an important dialogue about the dangers of fentanyl.
Again, our goal is the education of our students regarding harmful behaviors, and the prevention of such behavior in concert with the guidance and support of our parents/guardians. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us or any member of the Ames Campus staff should you have any questions or require further support in this regard.
Sincerely,
Tania M. Willman, Principal
Danielle E. Kennedy, Executive Assistant to the Principal

Dear Ames Parents/Guardians,
We are already into the second marking period of the school year, and Thanksgiving is next week! Students have been putting forth an outstanding effort in the areas of academics, athletics and clubs/activities at school. In addition, students have already received their first marking period grades. At the end of the quarter, teachers provided comments on the Parent Portal about students' performance and/or areas of concern. After reviewing these grades and comments, students and parents are encouraged to speak directly with the appropriate classroom teacher and/or guidance counselor with any questions.
Looking at this week, the Chromebook Swap will take place during Physical Education classes on Wednesday, 11/19 and Thursday, 11/20. As a reminder, students are to bring their Chromebook and charger to class. Additionally, on Friday, November 21st and Monday, November 24th, all students will be receiving an overview of emergency care during their designated Physical Education class. The presentation does not provide students with a certification; however, it is intended to inform them of helpful information as it pertains to CPR, AED, choking as well as stop the bleed. The program will be presented by staff from Covert Investigations, our district security organization.
In addition, the Class of 2029 is also holding an online clothing sale fundraiser, which includes designs created by students at the Ames Campus. The sale is open from today through Sunday, November 23rd: Class of 2029 Clothing Sale Fundraiser
As noted in the district calendar, next week on Tuesday, November 25th, there will be a Rapid Dismissal Drill. At Ames Campus, students will be dismissed from 9th period class at approximately 2:03 PM to accommodate a 2:10 PM rapid dismissal drill. No after-school clubs or extra-help will be in session, and there is no 3:10 PM late bus. Sports schedules will remain in place at the discretion of the athletic coaches so shuttle buses will be available to transport athletes to MHS-Main Campus. School will then be closed from Wednesday, November 26th through Friday, November 28th for the Thanksgiving holiday.
In the week we return to school, specifically on the morning of Wednesday, December 3th, we will be holding an assembly program for students about the dangers of fentanyl presented by the Nassau County Police Department (NCPD). An adjusted bell schedule will be in place that day to support the program presentation.
Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation. We wish you and your family the best as you prepare for the holiday season.
Sincerely,
Tania M. Willman, Principal
Danielle E. Kennedy, Executive Assistant to the Principal

Dear Grade 9 Parents/Guardians and Students,
On November 19th and 20th, all Grade 9 students will be exchanging their currently assigned Chromebook for a new Chromebook during their PE class.
Please note the following:
Students need to bring their Chromebook and charger to PE.
Students will keep their current Chromebook bag.
The new Chromebooks will have limited/no battery charge. Teachers have been informed and will plan accordingly.
The new Chromebook will have a district-issued protective cover that must remain attached at all times. (This is in addition to their Chromebook bag that must be used when the Chromebook is not in-use.)
If a student is absent from class on their PE day or needs support, we ask that they visit the AHS Chrome Depot.
Thank you,
The Massapequa School District
