Dear Lockhart Families:

We are excited to announce that our 2025 PARP Week begins next Thursday, 2/6 and will run through 2/14. Our theme for the year is "Heroes and Villains live in every story" The entire week will have events and activities that revolve around how stories have heroes and villains. From Harry Potter, to Malificent, to Mario and Luigi, and Cruella Deville, all stories have protagonists and antagonists . Students will engage in a number of fun reading activities that will aim to instill a love of reading in all. A PARP packet is being sent home tomorrow with information, dates, and links. These memos are also attached to this email. One of the biggest to do's for the children and families is to log their reading minutes each night using the QR code on the Parent Letter. As a school, we are aiming to read for a collective 50,000 minutes by the end of PARP. Please take the time to read everyday and you can even use some fun at home reading activities suggested by the PTA. That list is attached to this email as well.
During the week, we have numerous incentives to help entice the children to read even more. These include individual blank story books in which they will get stamps or stickers for completing reading minutes and activities, Barnes and Noble gift cards, homework passes, bookmarks, and more. We also have some fun dress up days including Book Character Dress Up Day (2/7), School Spirit Day, and Pajama Day.
We are especially excited for our Kickoff event on 2/6, organized by our Librarian Mrs. Gonzalez. This event will run from 6:00-7:00 and our Book Fair will also be open from 5:45-7:30. Families can shop before or after the Kickoff event. During the Kickoff, families will get to enjoy stories read by fifth grade students and staff, as well as a few fun reading centers with activities to enjoy. We hope to see everyone there. Please scan the QR code on the Parent Letter to confirm your attendance.
Classes will also invite in guest parent readers from 2/7-2/13. There is a sign up memo in the packet. This will be a lottery and only 1-2 readers will be randomly chosen by the teacher to read on each day. Please make sure to send back this sheet by 2/3. This is another great way we are trying to get some parents into the classrooms!
