Dear Berner Families,
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. Throughout the year, we regularly review and practice our emergency procedures through both announced and unannounced drills. These include fire, secure lockout, lockdown, shelter, relocation, and evacuation drills.
On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, we will conduct a lockdown drill, which helps us prepare for a potential threat inside the building. Additional safety drills will continue throughout the remainder of the year to ensure ongoing preparedness.
Thank you for your continued support.

Dear Berner Parents and Guardians,
As we begin spring sports tryouts and prepare for the start of the season this Monday, March 30th, I want to share some important reminders—relevant both for tryouts and throughout the entire spring season.
1. Students must bring their athletic equipment to school in the morning.
Parents should not be dropping off their child's athletic equipment at the front desk each day. These drop-offs create significant disruptions for our front desk staff and result in a growing pile of bags in the front lobby. This creates congestion in an area that must remain clear and safe for students, staff, and visitors. To avoid these issues, students should arrive with all necessary athletic equipment at the start of the school day.
2. Students should bring only the essential equipment in the smallest bag possible.
Large athletic bags create challenges in our hallways, locker rooms, and limit our ability to properly store equipment throughout the day. A compact bag with only the necessary items helps keep these areas safe, organized, and manageable for all students.
3. Equipment should be stored immediately upon entering the building.
Students should place their athletic equipment in either their hallway locker or gym locker as soon as they arrive and then proceed directly to homeroom. This prevents congestion in the hallways and ensures a smooth start to the school day.
Thank you for your cooperation and partnership as we work to support a positive tryout experience for all of our middle school athletes. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Looking forward to a great Spring athletic season!

Dear Berner Families,
This week, students participated in the Rachel’s Challenge assembly, inspired by Rachel Scott’s life and belief that small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect. To continue this work, students reflected on ways to make their school community more inclusive and compassionate.
You may notice your child talking about “leaving a legacy” or simple acts of kindness they are committing to this week. We encourage you to discuss these ideas at home and reinforce the importance of connection and empathy.
Thank you for supporting a positive school culture.
Sincerely,
Jason Esposito, Beth Mullins, Keri Wing, Rob Tucker, Kristen Meoli, Ken Petersen, and Ed Hoffman
