Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Families,
We are pleased to announce that Berner Middle School will be hosting a combined Moving Up and Awards Ceremony for all eighth grade students on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.
The program for the ceremony will include recognition for each individual student, as well as awards for academic, special area classes, and student character. We are so proud of every eighth grade student and cannot wait to share this special moment in time with the Berner community.
In order to accommodate all of our eighth graders’ families to the best extent we can, the ceremony will be held simultaneously in two locations based on the student's last name. Although there are no physical tickets, we ask that no more than four guests accompany each student, as seating is limited.
● Last Names A-G will be in the auditorium
● Last Names H-Z will be in the gymnasium
Additional details for the event:
● Guests will access the gymnasium and auditorium through the entrances at the front of the school.
○ Last names A-G will enter through the Auditorium Entrance.
○ Last names H-Z will enter through the Visitors’ Entrance.
● We anticipate the ceremony will conclude prior to 7:30 p.m.
● Please note this is a school-sponsored activity and all aspects of the Code of Conduct will be enforced.
○ Student attire must be in accordance with the school's Code of Conduct.
We are excited to be able to provide this opportunity for our eighth graders and their families to celebrate this accomplishment together. We thank you in advance for your assistance in helping make the ceremony a success!

The dates and times for each concert are listed below:
Monday, May 4th
Grade 8 Band and Select Singers at 6:30 pm
Grade 7 Band at 8:00 pm
Tuesday, May 5th
Grade 6 Orchestra, Flute Choir and Vocal Points at 6:30 pm
Grade 7 Orchestra and Chorus at 8:00 pm

Monday, May 11th
Grade 6 Band and Early Morning Risers at 6:30pm

In order for us to ensure there is a seat for each member of the audience and to comply with fire safety guidelines, we ask that families limit guests to 4 attendees for each concert.
Concert Dress for all students are as follows:
Black polo shirt/dress shirt/blouse (long or short sleeves, no spaghetti straps, no t-shirts and no shirts with a logo larger than 2”)
Long black pants (strongly encouraged) or ankle length skirt/dress
Appropriate black footwear

Dear Berner Parents and Students:
This is a reminder that the 2025-2026 New York State English Language Arts Assessment will be administered tomorrow, Tuesday (April 14) and Wednesday (April 15). All students taking the exam should bring a fully charged Chromebook to school on the morning of the exam.
If you haven't done so already, and you do not wish your child to participate in the exams, parents/guardians must complete the 2026 NYS Assessment Participation Refusal Form located on the Parent Portal (App - Select More, Web - Use the Navigation Menu) by the end of the day today (Monday, April 13).

Please see the attached link with important information regarding the upcoming New York State Grades 6-8 Assessments for ELA and Math and Grade 8 Science. If you haven't done so already, and you do not wish your child to participate in the exams, we ask that you complete the 2026 NYS Assessment Participation Refusal Form located on the Parent Portal (App - Select More, Web - Use the Navigation Menu) to allow for building administration to plan accordingly prior to the first day of testing. Please note, the first day of the NYS ELA Assessment is the Tuesday we return from Spring Recess (April 14).

As we enter the final months of the school year, we are currently reviewing student disciplinary records to determine eligibility for end of the year events such as the Adventureland field trip on May 21, the 6th and 7th Grade Award Ceremony on June 9, the 8th Grade Award and Moving Up Ceremony on June 11, and the 8th Grade Dance on June 25. While we hope all students can participate, eligibility is directly tied to adherence to the Massapequa School District’s Code of Conduct. It is important to note that disciplinary incidents that have occurred over the course of the school year and/or prior to these events may affect a student’s ability to attend.
Our goal is to always encourage positive behavior and ensure all school events remain safe, appropriate, and enjoyable for students and staff. Consistent expectations help us maintain this environment. We ask families to review behavioral expectations with their children and reinforce the importance of making responsible choices.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure a successful end to the school year.
