Dear Berner Middle School Families,
As part of our continued efforts to ensure a safe and secure school environment at Berner, we are implementing an updated procedure to reinforce the expectation that all students wear their school lanyard containing their ID badge around their neck throughout the school day, including during passing time in the halls. Unfortunately, despite our staff members’ best efforts to remind students of the need to wear their IDs, there are still a number of students who are not consistently following our school’s student ID procedures. To help address this issue, beginning Monday, March 2, 2026, students who are not wearing their Berner student ID lanyard around their neck or their temporary ID on the upper area of their shirt will be referred to the Deans’ Office and potentially assigned a lunch detention.
Here are a few important details:
Morning Announcement Reminder
Each day during homeroom, as a part of morning announcements, students will be reminded to put their student ID lanyards around their neck and wear them throughout the day or to go to the Deans’ Office to obtain a temporary ID sticker/badge if needed.
Temporary IDs
If a student forgets this/her ID at home, he/she is expected to obtain a temporary ID sticker/badge from the Deans’ Office prior to Homeroom and wear it visibly on the upper area of their shirt.
ID Lanyards Must Be Worn, Not Carried
Students must wear their ID lanyards around their neck and are not permitted to carry them in their hand, pockets, backpack, or elsewhere.
Follow‑Up
Students not following the ID policy will be referred to the Deans’ Office so that appropriate follow‑up can take place.
Thank you for your partnership in helping us maintain a safe school environment. Encouraging and reminding your children to wear their IDs around their necks and leave their IDs with their Chromebook or other consistent daily items can help ensure they have it ready each morning.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Deans’ Office.
Sincerely,
Jason Esposito
Principal
