Dear Lockhart Families: We were so happy to our our Math Coach, Mrs. Rakamaric, join us at our March PTA meeting the other day. She shared some helpful information about how parents can navigate the iReady program at home. This includes online lessons, printing of lessons, and other valuable resources. If you were not aware, parents can access the iReady math program that the children do right here in school everyday. This includes their daily lessons and homework. Below is a link to some information that can help you navigate the program.

Dear Lockhart Families: Apologies for the prior email. The Homework Helper Club is only for Grades 3-5 students and should not have gone to all.
Dear Lockhart Families: Due to a mandatory training for teachers after school tomorrow, Tuesday 3/18, all after school clubs and EAST sessions are cancelled.
Dear Lockhart Families: We once again want to thank all of the parents and staff who helped make this year's PARP Week our best yet. Students truly were excited about reading books, which is the overall goal of the week. There were so many highlights from the week and we are lucky enough to have Mrs. O'Hara, who put together a video with photos from all of our reading events. We hope you enjoy!

Dear Lockhart Families: Our March PTA meeting is this morning at 9am in the GP room. Joining us is Mrs. Rakamaric, our District Math Coach who will be speaking on how parents can access iReady and its resources at home. There will be other school and PTA updates as always. We would love to see you there!
Dear Lockhart Families: We are extremely excited to announce our 2nd annual First Responder Appreciation Day on June 3rd! On this day, we will be celebrating all of the first responders that we have here with our Lockhart families and those around Nassau County. The day will begin with a welcome breakfast for all guests and presenters, followed by Lockhart family members who are first responders going into their child’s classroom to present, and culminating with a large scale parade and stations on the back field, which is organized by the Nassau County Police Department. This is absolutely one of the most memorable days of the year.
Already attending and helping facilitate the entire day is the Nassau County Police Commissioner, along with a Mounted Police Unit, K9 Unit, Motorcycle Unit, Special OPS, POP Officers, Massapequa Fire Dept., and EMS. All units will be bringing vehicles to park around the back of Lockhart and on the back blacktop path. These vehicles and horses will begin with a parade and then all grades will spend time visiting the stations.
If you are a first responder or someone in your family is, and you would like to present to your child's class, please use the link below to sign up. There is also the opportunity to buy a First Responder Appreciation T Shirt, with all proceeds going to The First Responders Foundation. Please click the link below for more information.

Dear Third Grade Parents,
In the coming months, all third grade students will have the opportunity to select an instrument to begin playing next fall. The Inside Out Performance by the Massapequa Philharmonic is a wonderful way for your child to begin to explore possible instrument choices.
Following the performance, students can participate in the Instrument Meet and Greet; a time to speak with teachers and students, see the instruments up close, and ask questions.

Dear Lockhart Families: We are proud to announce that Lockhart now has a permanent Book Swap Cart that will be outside the Library everyday. Kids can bring books from home to donate to the cart and take a new book home if they want. Through the brainstorming of a few staff members, we turned an unused book cart into this wonderful resource. With the amazing talent and creativity of Alexandria Ahearne, the new Book Swap Cart was created. Feel free to start swapping books!

Dear Lockhart Families: We are so proud of all our students for reaching our school-wide reading goal of 50,000 minutes read during PARP week. Because of this, the top readers from each class get to cover Mr. DeLuca in silly string! This will take place tomorrow at 2:15. The entire school will gather in the gym and claim their prize! Again we want to thank all parents who helped us make PARP Week the best one yet.
Dear Lockhart Families: Each year, the placement process for making future classes is one of the most important, time consuming jobs we have. Multiple staff in the building discuss best placements for our students. Parents are also given the opportunity to give some input into the process, but understand that nothing is guaranteed and the overall decision lies with the school. Please click on the link to gain more information and use the google spreadsheet to enter your input. All responses are due by April 4.

Dear Lockhart Families: After a discussion with numerous people, we are unfortunately cancelling the 5th Grade Ducks game event. At no fault of anyone, it was scheduled on the same night as the All Elementary Concert practice. This was the only date provided to the 5th grade committee by the LI Ducks, but the All Elementary Concert is an important, district-wide event that cannot be conflicted with. Having the kids choose between the two is also unfair to them. We wish that both events were possible but unfortunately, that is not the case. We are looking forward to watching our students perform at the All Elementary Concert!
The district is happy to announce that the Massapequa Public Schools Annual Science Discovery Fair is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Berner Middle School. The event is open to all young scientists in grades K-8. This is a great opportunity for our budding scientists to investigate, explore, and report on those natural phenomena that stimulate their young, creative minds.
As a reminder, registration closes tomorrow, March 1, 2025.

Dear Lockhart Families: It is with great pleasure to announce that Lockhart Elementary is hosting its 2nd annual First Responder Appreciation Day on June 3! With the help of Mrs. Delwey and the PTA, First Responder Appreciation Day will give our school the chance to thank and learn from the amazing emergency workers that we have right here in our community. Last year was one of the most special days in Lockhart history and we are looking forward to welcoming the entire NCPD and all of their departments once again. Also, we need you! We are looking for our Lockhart Police Officers, Firefighters, EMS workers, Health Care workers, or anyone else in the First Responder category to come to and join us for the morning. If you are one or you have someone in your family that is a First Responder, we would love to have them come to Lockhart that morning and talk to the class. More information to come but save the date, June 3! We know you will need time to ensure you have the availability.
Dear Lockhart Families: The last week of PARP was Random Acts of Kindness Week. Because that was also our PARP Week, we will celebrate what we call Respect/Kindness Week next week. We feel that kindness should not be random, it should just be the way we are. Also, everyone deserves to be respected and it’s important that we teach our students this. Each day, our teachers will remind their students of all the conversations and hard work we are doing to display respect and inclusivity for all. They will also talk about the little things they could do each day to make our school a happy and safe place to learn and grow. We have put together some fun, non intrusive, activities that can be done each day. Something as simple as a student giving another student a compliment can go a long way. Please read the memo below which gives more information. We are also bringing back the highly popular Mix It Up Day, which was thought of by last year’s Student Council. On Friday, March 7, during all lunch periods, students will get the opportunity to sit with different people and strike up conversations to get to know each other. With the help of our Social Worker, Ms. Pusateri, all students will be given a different color index card, which signals the lunch table they will sit at. Questions and conversation starters will be on the tables to help students. These are all fun and important messages for our kids to learn. The more opportunities we take to display the positive traits in ourselves, the better our children will be.

Dear Lockhart Families: We are excited to announce the winners of this years PARP reading contest. As a school, we surpassed our goal of 50,000 minutes read, by topping 62,000 minutes! Because of this, the top two students from each class who logged the most minutes read will get to cover Mr. DeLuca in silly string in front of the whole school next week! We announced the winners at the end of the day over the loud speaker and list is below. Also, the top 3 classes will get a pick a class prize. Those classes are - #1 - Mrs. Hoehn's class - 8648 minutes read, #2 - Mrs. Kohlhoff's class - 6382 minutes read, #3 - Mrs. Birney's class - 4455 minutes read. Congratulations to all of our students for doing a wonderful job all week. Keep up the great reading!
