Dear Fairfield Families,
I am writing to inform you of an incident that occurred today, Wednesday, October 22nd, during the third-grade recess.
While students were on the playground, a car stopped on the opposite side of the street near the school perimeter fence. The driver, an adult male, began playing an instrument. Students, curious about the music, began to move toward the fence.
I want to assure you that our staff acted immediately. The students were redirected right away by the supervising staff members to move back toward the center of the playground. At the same time, Security was notified immediately. Our security team responded promptly. The car then left without further incident.
Following the event, our staff used this moment to reinforce our Stranger Danger protocol with the students.
Thank you for your partnership as we continually emphasize these critical safety lessons with your children.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gerhard
Principal

October 9, 2025
Dear Parents,
The students and staff of Fairfield will celebrate Halloween this year on Friday, October 31st, which includes a parade! This year ALL grade levels will be marching in the Halloween parade.
The Parade
Our Halloween Parade will be on Friday, October 31st at 10:00 am.
Students in ALL grades (Kindergarten - Grade Five) will march in the Halloween parade.
Parents are invited to attend this Halloween parade and act as spectators weather permitting.
**IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER, AN INDOOR PARADE WILL BE HELD FOR STUDENTS AND STAFF ONLY. UNFORTUNATELY, SPECTATORS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED INDOORS.**
The Costumes
As the tradition has evolved over the years, so have the costumes. All students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade may wear costumes.
A few important costume notes:
Costumes must be appropriate for school and not reveal any private parts of the body-including midriffs.
Shoes and other pieces of the costume must be safe and must fit properly.
Masks are NOT allowed.
Limit the accessories so pieces of the costume are not lost or damaged before the end of the day. Accessories that represent weapons cannot be brought to school.
Weapons and violent representations of any kind cannot be part of the costume.
Makeup representing blood and gore are not permitted.
The costume, makeup, or accessories cannot interfere with the learning process of the student or of others.
The Parade Route
We will parade out the side doors (on School Street). We will follow the sidewalk past the front lobby door and head to the front of the building. We will march around to the Prospect Avenue doors. We will re-enter the building through the Prospect Avenue doors. Parents may gather in the front parking lot and on the grass along the parade route. Please allow plenty of room for students to parade without interruption and without blocking the sidewalk.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gerhard

The New York State Education Department requires all schools to have policies and procedures for the safe evacuation of students, staff, and visitors in the event of an emergency. These plans include our evacuation route, shelter sites, and protocols to ensure everyone's safety.
This year, we will extend our practice to include the actual evacuation from Fairfield to our designated evacuation site, Massapequa High School.
We are working closely with our emergency response team—comprised of district and school personnel—to ensure that in the case of a real emergency, we are fully prepared.
Please note that due to inclement weather, the Emergency Evacuation Drill originally scheduled for Thursday, September 25, 2025, has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 16, 2025. All students and staff will evacuate Fairfield and depart the premises via school bus to Massapequa High School. The drill will not interfere with our normal lunch routine.
We ask for your assistance with the following:
Please bring your child to school on time. Arrival begins at 9:15.
Late arriving students should enter the lobby as usual. Accommodations have been made for these students, and they will be supervised at Fairfield by a teacher.
In the event of a real evacuation, you would be notified as soon as safely possible. We anticipate that the drill will run smoothly and will use it as an opportunity to reflect on our procedures to ensure safe and effective plans. Additional safety drills will continue throughout the school year.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Should you have any questions, please contact the main office at 516-308-5301.
Sincerely,
Kristi Gerhard
