Dear Berner Families,
Today, Berner students had the opportunity to participate in grade-level assemblies focused on positive decision-making, character development, and personal responsibility.
Our 7th and 8th grade students attended the "Why Character Matters" assembly presented by Mark Leinweaver. This engaging program encouraged students to reflect on how their choices shape their character, reputation, and future opportunities. Topics included responsible self-representation, the consequences of social media use, courage and leadership, selflessness versus selfishness, school spirit, community support, and bullying prevention.
Our 6th grade students participated in an assembly presented by members of the Nassau County Police Department Community Affairs Division, which focused on responsible social media use, digital citizenship, and bicycle safety.
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting students' social, emotional, and personal growth, we encourage families to continue having open and meaningful conversations at home about these important topics.
We deeply value your partnership in helping our students make safe, responsible, and respectful choices both online and within our community.

Dear Berner Parents and Guardians,
As the fall middle school athletic season gets underway, I would like to remind everyone of the following expectations regarding athletic equipment. These procedures should be followed throughout the fall season and during all athletic seasons this school year.
1. Students must bring their athletic equipment to school when they arrive in the morning.
Parents should not bring and drop off athletic equipment at the front desk during the school day. These drop-offs create significant disruptions for our office staff and result in a growing accumulation of bags in the front lobby. This creates congestion in an area that must remain safe and accessible for students, staff, and visitors. To prevent these issues, students should come to school prepared with all necessary athletic equipment.
2. Athletic equipment should be stored immediately upon entering the building.
Upon arrival, students should place their athletic equipment in either their hallway locker or gym locker and then report directly to homeroom. This practice helps minimize hallway congestion and ensures an orderly start to the school day.
