Dear Ames Families,
With the snow storm and clean up behind us, we are eagerly looking forward to the month of March and the sights and sounds of spring.
Please review the following for important information:
The Month of March is Best Buddies Month. Next week, from Monday, March 2nd- Friday, March 6th, we have a week of spirit days lined up with this month’s theme of inclusivity:
Monday, 3/2 - Wear Best Buddies Gear
Tuesday, 3/3 - Twin with Your Buddy
Wednesday, 3/4 - Pajama Day
Thursday, 3/5 - Wear Friendship Bracelets
Friday, 3/6 - Wear Your Brightest Colors
On Wednesday, March 4th, the district will host its 3rd Annual Parent University Workshop at Ames. For further information about the event, please visit: www.msd.k12.ny.us/parentuniversity.
A district-wide Family Connect Night will be held on March 4th. This is designated as a night free from homework, finishing up classwork assignments, or preparing for any assessments on the following day.
The third-marking period mid-quarter appraisal is at the end of next week on Friday, March 6th. Students are encouraged to review their grades on the portal and use Learn at Lunch opportunities in Math and Science as
well as attend extra-help sessions with teachers.
Tickets to the school musical, Mean Girls, on Friday, March 6th and Saturday, March 7th at MHS-Main Campus at 7pm are being sold for $15 in the Ames cafeteria during lunch periods through Wednesday, March 4th.
World Language Festival is on Thursday, March 12th at 7pm at MHS-Main Campus

Dear Ames Families,
I am writing to inform you that once again we had a temporary heating issue in our cafeteria during 4th period lunch. Therefore, we needed to assign students and staff to alternative classrooms to provide a comfortable eating environment. At this time, the issue has been resolved and students and staff are able to be in the cafeteria for the remaining lunch periods.

Dear Ames Families,
Good morning. At this time, sufficient heat is being provided to the cafeteria, and the space has returned to a comfortable temperature. Therefore, as of today, students and staff will be able to resume normal activities in the cafeteria. We will no longer be utilizing alternate classrooms for lunch periods.

To Parents/Guardians of Students in Grade 5-11,
The ability to view your child's 2026-2027 courses via the "Class Registration" icon in the navigation menu on the Parent Portal has been enabled. You may access this on the web portal located at: https://msdps.powerschool.com/public. Please note, if your child has an IEP, all recommendations will be discussed and course selections finalized at your child’s CSE annual review meeting.
Parents of Students in Grade 5:
If you have questions regarding a recommended reading support class, please contact your child’s current 5th grade teacher or Mrs. Patricia Quinn-Hendry, Comprehensive Literacy Chairperson K-12, at 516-308-5153. Any other schedule questions or concerns can be made directly to the Berner Guidance Department by Friday, February 13, 2026.
Parents of Students in Grade 6:
If you have questions regarding recommended support classes, please contact your child’s current sixth grade teacher. Any other requests for a course change must be made directly with the Berner Guidance Department by Friday, February 13, 2026. Important - Please note, acceleration class notifications and schedule updates will be sent home starting on March 25, 2026.
Parents of Students in Grades 7-8:
Any questions or concerns should be directed to your child's guidance counselor. Requests for a course change must be made Friday, February 13, 2026.
Parents of Students in Grades 9-11:
Parents will not see any requests in the parent portal until after their child meets with their counselor. As a result, course requests may not be viewable until February 12, 2026. If you have any questions after reviewing the listed course requests, please contact your child’s guidance counselor as soon as possible.
If you have any questions in reference to the scheduling process, please do not hesitate to contact the guidance office at Berner, MHS - Ames Campus or MHS - Main Campus. For questions about the Parent Portal, please email the PowerSchool Parent Portal support team at powerschool@msd.k12.ny.us.

Dear Ames Families
I am writing to inform you that our cafeteria is currently experiencing a heating issue. Please know that our facilities team is actively working to resolve the problem and to install temporary heating as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, we are reassigning students and staff to alternate classrooms during lunch periods to ensure everyone can eat in a comfortable environment. Our team has organized these spaces to maintain normal routines and minimize disruptions.
We will keep you updated as repairs progress and will notify you once the cafeteria is fully operational again. Please note that the lunch line remains accessible to students who will be purchasing lunch. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to maintain a comfortable environment for all students.
