The nominations are in and now it’s time to vote for your Homecoming Royalty Court. You may select up to two of the nominees to represent your grade level in the upcoming homecoming festivities. Voting will open from Monday, October 5th at 7:30am to Wednesday, October 7th at 3:00pm. The winners will be announced at Ames on Thursday, October 8th and they will participate in the MHS Pep Rally on Friday, October 9th. In addition, they will march in the parade and attend the football game on Saturday, October 10th.

Dear Ames Campus Families,
Last week, students participated in a workshop on the topic of Social Media, Digital Safety, & Connections with Others in the English Language Arts classes. The program was presented by the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD). Throughout the presentation, the speaker engaged students in the following points of discussion:
Ways in which social media impacts mental health
Making good decisions when using social media
Understanding our digital footprint
Cyberbullying and the impact our words can have on others
Staying safe in a digital space
Being an advocate for others, practicing empathy, being respectful and considering ones values
Please note that a representative from LICADD will be returning to Ames on Wednesday, October 14th and Thursday, October 15th to connect with students on the topics of vaping and addiction. The presentations will be delivered in the Physical Education classes.
Later this week on Thursday, October 1st, a representative from the Nassau County Police Department’s Explorers Program will be onsite and available during the lunch periods to provide program information to any interested students.
As a reminder, we will be kicking off our Homecoming with the Homecoming Dance, which is scheduled for Thursday, October 1st from 6:30pm to 9:00pm in the Berner Cafeteria. Tickets were sold in advance and must have been accompanied with a parent signed Homecoming Dance Code of Conduct.
Spirit Week will then begin on Monday, October 5th and will culminate with the Homecoming parade and football game on Saturday, October 10th. Each of the classes has chosen the theme of Movies About Friendship and will be decorating the hallways and parade banners with their chosen movie as follows:
Seniors - The Sandlot
Juniors - Toy Story
Sophomores - Inside Out
Freshman - The Goonies
The dress up day themes are being coordinated as follows:
Monday, October 5th - Pajama Day
Tuesday, October 6th - Color Wars (lanyard colors: 9th - black, 10th - purple, 11th - pink, 12th - gold)
Wednesday, October 7th - Sports Jersey Day
Thursday, October 8th - Twin Day
Friday, October 9th - Chiefnations Blue and Gold Day (wear school colors)
The Pep Rally will take place on Friday, October 9th at MHS-Main Campus in the afternoon. Students at Ames Campus will have the opportunity to cheer on the Varsity Student Athletes and the Royal Court throughout the hallways prior to them taking the bus to the Main Campus. Finally, the Homecoming Parade is scheduled for Saturday, October 10th at 12:30pm. All school clubs/groups have been invited to march with their class. The lineup begins at 11:45am in the parking lot off Front St. and Seventh Ave. The football game versus Oceanside will follow the parade at 2pm.
Lastly, the first marking period mid-quarter appraisal is at the end of the week on Friday, October 2nd. Students are encouraged to continue putting forth their best efforts and to utilize additional opportunities such as Extra-Help and Learn-at-Lunch.

Dear Ames Campus Families,
At the Ames Campus, students and staff are engaging in a One Book, One School initiative centered on Ground Zero by Alan Gratz. We are pleased to share several meaningful opportunities designed to deepen our students’ understanding of the events and lasting impact of September 11, 2001.
1. Assembly Program - Voices of 9/11: Stories of Service and Strength on Thursday, October 22nd
The Ames campus will host a special assembly featuring guest speakers who will share their personal connections to 9/11. Further information and a revised bell schedule for this day will be forthcoming.
2. 9/11 Museum & Memorial Field Trip
Students will have the opportunity to attend a field trip during the operation of the regular school day in which they will visit the 9/11 Museum and Memorial. Once the dates and times have been secured, permission slips will become available to all students.
3. 9/11 Clothing Fundraiser
In anticipation of the trip to the 9/11 Museum & Memorial, we are currently hosting a fundraiser through New Wave Outfitters, allowing students, staff, and families to purchase commemorative clothing. Proceeds will be donated to selected 9/11 charitable organizations. The FLYER includes ordering information. Upon conclusion of the ordering timeline and fulfillment of the orders, these items will be distributed to students in their homerooms.

Dear Ames Campus Families,
Last week, our students did an excellent job practicing a series of emergency management drills, which included a bus evacuation, fire drill, lockdown drill and lockout drill. We will continue to exercise a variety of these drills throughout the school year.
This week, we begin offering students the Learn at Lunch program in the academic areas of Mathematics and Science. Students are able to access additional support during their lunch periods as follows:
Mathematics with Ms. Smith: Tuesday - Friday in Room 231 (Periods 4&5) and Room 229 (Periods 6&7)
Science with Ms. Whalen: Tuesday - Thursday in Room 136
As a reminder, Massapequa High School-Ames/Main Campus will be holding the Homecoming Dance in October to kick off Homecoming Spirit Week. The dance will be on Thursday, October 1, 2026 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. It will be held in the Berner Cafeteria and will be dressy attire. Tickets for the dance went on sale last week, and tomorrow is the last day to purchase a ticket during all lunch periods in both buildings. Tickets are $10 and must be paid by check made out to Massapequa Public Schools. Students must also have a parent signed code of conduct with them when purchasing a ticket. Copies of the Homecoming Dance Code of Conduct can be picked up in the General Office or printed from the link.
In looking ahead to next week, on Thursday, September 24th and Friday, September 25th, Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD) will be presenting a workshop to students on the topic of Social Media, Digital Safety, & Connections with Others in the English Language Arts classes.
Furthermore, on Monday, September 28th, the Ames site-based Shared Decision Making (SDM) Committee is scheduled to hold its first meeting of the 2026-2027 school year at 2:30 p.m. in Room 133. This site-based forum allows faculty and staff, students, parents and administrators to come together once a month in order to discuss ideas and practices in order to make recommendations that will positively impact our school. At this time, we are looking for some interest from parents/guardians in joining the committee. The meetings are anticipated to conclude before the 3:10pm late bus dismissal for students, but can be adjusted as needs and time permit. Please respond to dkennedy@msd.k12.ny.us by the end of the day on Thursday, 9/24 if you would like to join us as a member for this year.
