Message from the Superintendent of Schools:

Dear Massapequa Families,

I am writing to provide an update regarding the June 2026 administration of the NYS Earth and Space Science and Life Science: Biology Regents examinations.

Over the past several days, we have reviewed district performance data, consulted with our science teachers and administrators, and listened carefully to feedback from students and families. Based on this review, we concluded that the new Earth and Space Science and Life Science: Biology Regents examinations did not provide many students with a fair opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the curriculum taught throughout the school year.

While we value rigorous assessments and high standards, we believe grades should accurately reflect the learning, growth, and achievement students have demonstrated throughout the year. We are proud of our students for their hard work and resilience and grateful for the dedication of our science teachers as they support students through this transition to the new assessments.

With that in mind, and with the support of the Board of Education, I have updated the district's grading regulation to implement a "No Harm" grading approach for the June 2026 Earth and Space Science and Life Science: Biology Regents examinations. Under this approach, a Regents examination score will only be included in a student's final course average if it improves the student's overall grade. This ensures that students are not academically disadvantaged during the transition to these new assessments.

Please note that, in accordance with NYS regulations, all Regents examination scores will continue to be recorded on student transcripts and used to satisfy applicable graduation requirements. The No Harm policy applies solely to the calculation of local course averages.

I appreciate the continued support of our community and thank our students, teachers, and families for their partnership. We remain proud of our students and deeply grateful for the outstanding work of our teachers, whose commitment to excellence supports student success every day.

Sincerely,

William Brennan, Ed.D.

PTSA - Ice Cream Treat

On Wednesday, June 4th, the PTSA will be providing an ice cream/dairy free treat for our students during all lunch periods as a way to wish them good luck on their final exams.

Spring Concert

The Ames Spring Concert will take place on Monday, June 8th at 8:00pm in the Baldwin Auditorium at Massapequa High School. We hope to see you there.

Locker Cleanout

Locker cleanout will occur next week on Wednesday, June 10th (2nd Floor) and Thursday, June 11th (1st Floor). Students should bring all personal items home. All lockers must be emptied by the end of the school day on Friday, June 12th, and students will not have access to their lockers beyond Friday.  In addition, students are to retain their locks for use at MHS-Main Campus in the next academic school year.

Last Day of Classes/Finals/Regents Exams

Our last day of classes is Friday, June 12th, but please note that some in-class finals will begin as early as Friday, June 5th. Please review the Final Exam/Regents schedule and the transportation schedule. If you or your child has any further questions, please encourage them to visit the Guidance Office.

Ames Final Exam Schedule - June 2026

Ames Final Exam Transportation Schedule -  June 2026

  • As a reminder, final exams and Regents Exams constitute 12% of a student’s grade in the course.  Students should fully prepare for these assessments to the greatest extent possible. There are still opportunities to attend Learn at Lunch this week as well as extra-help in the final days of school.

  • Beginning on Monday, June 15, 2026 students will report to school only if they have a scheduled final or Regents examination.

  • If a student is unable to attend school on the day a local exam is given between June 15th-June 23rd due to illness, they must provide a stamped medical doctor’s note excusing them for that day.  Medical documentation will allow students to make-up the exam on Wednesday, June 24th or Thursday, June 25th, and transportation will be provided to and from school upon request.

  • Students are prohibited from having possession of internet enabled or electronic devices including, but not limited to a cell phone, air pods, ear buds, iPod, MPS Player, iPad, camera, headphones, smartwatch, while in a testing room, restroom and/or during testing administration.

Throughout the course of the school year, students have worked diligently to build a strong foundation for tenth grade and beyond. We encourage all students to continue doing as best as they can in preparation for finals and Regents examinations.

Sincerely,

Danielle E. Kennedy, Acting Principal

Frank Agovino, Acting Executive Assistant to the Principal
