Lockhart students with First Repsonders

Upwards of 70 guests visited classrooms at Lockhart Elementary School on the morning on May 21, talking about their careers in law enforcement, emergency services and the medical profession.

The school’s third annual First Responders Appreciation Day featured police officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, doctors, nurses, physicians assistants and more. All of the guests are family members Lockhart students and volunteered their time to educate youngsters about their professions.

Each class had at least one visitor, but most had several guests throughout the morning. Many brought gifts for the students ranging from coloring books to key chains to kid-sized doctor coats. Children were thrilled to see the tools used by first responders and some even go to try on equipment.

The morning began with a breakfast for all of the guests as a token of the school’s appreciation for their service. As they walked through the hallways to get to the classrooms, they noticed signs of gratitude.

Many Lockhart students and staff were wearing “Lockhart Honors Our First Responders” shirts, which served as a fundraiser for the First Responders Foundation.

“This day was a great way to show our appreciation for all that our first responders do for us,” Mr. DeLuca said. “They weren’t just talking about their jobs and what they do, but how they help the world.”
