East Lake’s 5th graders put their engineering skills to the test during the 2026 Egg Drop Challenge, a hands-on project led in collaboration with Mrs. Himmelman. Blending creativity, science, and problem-solving, students were tasked with designing parachute-protected structures to safely deliver a fragile egg from a high drop.
Working in teams, students explored concepts like gravity, air resistance, and impact force as they sketched, built, and tested their designs. From carefully crafted parachutes to inventive cushioning systems, each structure reflected thoughtful planning and imaginative thinking.
Adding an extra layer of excitement, East Lake’s 4th grade MAGNET students served as judges for the event. With keen eyes and enthusiastic participation, they evaluated each design with a simple but memorable system: a thumbs up for success or a “sad chicken” for cracked eggs.
The Egg Drop Challenge was more than just a test of engineering, it was a celebration of collaboration, resilience, and learning through experience. Whether their eggs survived or not, every student walked away with a deeper understanding of STEM concepts and the value of teamwork.
