The room was dark but the spirits were bright as students at East Lake Elementary School celebrated a successful fundraiser during the annual Glow Party. The event was in partnership with the PTA.
The gymnasium floor and walls were covered in glowing tape, and music blasted as each grade had their moment to party. This was third year of the Boosterthon fundraiser, which the PTA uses to support student experiences at the school like arts and character education assemblies, the annual Pick a Reading Partner program, and Field Day food and T-shirts. Already, the PTA has raised about $26,000 this year as students get donations to run laps at the Glow Party.
The event was organized by PTA co-presidents Kate Mint and Katie Spennato along with Principal Thomas McKillip and Assistant Principal Mary Velte. A team of parent volunteers decorated the gym the night before with balloons, tape and streamers. Children were encouraged to wear bright colors as they walked, jogged, ran and did other fun movements like the bear crawl.
