Good Morning Birch Lane Families,
We hope this message finds you all enjoying this beautiful weather! We are writing to inform you of an important safety procedure regarding the use of electric bicycles (e-bikes) and electric scooters (e-scooters) on school property.
To ensure the safety of all students and staff, e-bikes and e-scooters are not permitted on school grounds at any time. We have all observed an increase in the use of these vehicles, and while we understand their convenience, they pose significant safety risks in a busy school environment.
Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone!
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
Best Regards,
Stephen Aspetti and Joyce Larkin

Dear Grade 4 Parents/Guardians,
All Grade 4 students will be exchanging their currently assigned Chromebook for a new Chromebook in the coming weeks.
Please note the following: If applicable, please remove any personal protective cases from the Chromebook. Students need to bring their current fully charged Chromebook and charger to school on the date indicated by their classroom teacher. Students will keep their current Chromebook bag. The new Chromebook will have a district-issued protective cover that must remain attached at all times. (This is in addition to their Chromebook bag that must be used when the Chromebook is not in-use.) The new Chromebooks may have limited/no battery charge. Teachers have been informed and will plan accordingly.
Thank you, The Massapequa School District

Good Morning Fifth Grade Families,
Just a reminder that we will be going to Marjorie Post Park tomorrow for our Fifth Grade Picnic. A few notes for tomorrow…
All of our students are asked to wear their class of 2025 t-shirts.
Students may bring a labeled water bottle with them. Water will also be served for lunch.
The Kool Kat Ice Cream Truck will be there. Students will choose between soft-serve ice cream and frozen ices. Classroom teachers will be reaching out to parents today with any allergy concerns to make sure all students are enjoying a safe snack.
It is highly recommended that you apply sunscreen to your child prior to the start of school and have your child wear protective clothing such as a hat.
Rollerblades, skateboards, hard baseball/lacrosse balls, baseball bats, or lacrosse sticks are not permitted.
All parents are invited to join us at the park.
We hope to see all of you tomorrow as we kick off our 5th grade celebrations!

Good Evening Birch Lane Families,
We invite all students to wear red, white and blue tomorrow as we honor and remember the brave men and women who have served our country.
Best Regards,
Stephen Aspetti and Joyce Larkin

Good Afternoon Birch Lane Families,
Earlier in the week an email went out from the district alerting all parents/guardians of a dangerous social media trend (please see email below). We are writing to you today to inform you of an incident that occurred in one of our bathrooms that involved a student sticking a metal object into the coil of a hand dryer. Fortunately, no one was injured. We are asking for all of our families to read through the information below and speak to their children about the real dangers of sticking metal objects into ports and electrical devices.
As always, we thank you for your support.
Best Regards,
Stephen Aspetti and Joyce Larkin
Dear Massapequa Families,
We want to make you aware of a troubling new trend or “challenge” circulating on social media, particularly TikTok, that poses a serious safety risk. In this trend, students are encouraged to insert metal objects, such as paper clips, pencils, or pushpins, into Chromebook ports. This is not just a prank; it can cause serious damage to the devices and, more importantly, create fire hazards by compromising the internal battery.
If appropriate for your child, we ask that you take a moment to discuss the real dangers of this trend and the importance of using school technology responsibly.
What Students Need to Know:
Inserting objects into a Chromebook’s ports can spark or puncture the lithium battery, potentially leading to fires.
This behavior violates both our Student Code of Conduct and the 1:1 Chromebook Parent/Student Agreement.
Thank you for your support in preventing accidents and ensuring the safety of all students and staff.
Sincerely,
The Massapequa School District
