Hello Massapequa!

It’s that time! After nearly a year in the making, we’re proud to share a video capturing the heart, spirit, and pride of Massapequa: our students, our staff, and our community.

More than words, this is the story of our commitment — a community built on connection, tradition, and the belief that together we can unlock a world of possibility for every child. In just 2 minutes and 43 seconds, this video reaffirms our vision: “Creating Leaders… One Child at a Time.”

I hope you enjoy it, and I invite you to share this inspiring message. Now, let’s get to the show. 💙💛

Good Evening Birch Lane Families,

As you know, we have a large number of students who ride their bikes to school. While we love that our students are taking advantage of the nice weather and getting good physical activity before and after school, we continue to be concerned about their safety, particularly in the area around the front of our building. We are asking all parents/guardians to please review the attached map with their children.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1djys1u-322NDvqBwDqQiiqy6BPo94Jgx/view?usp=drive_link

This is an aerial map of the front of our building (Birch Lane). You will notice that there is an area highlighted in red on this map. Please explain to your children that they are not permitted to ride their bikes in this area. This area sees a high volume of traffic, including most of our buses. The street is narrow and turns are sharp. This area is extremely dangerous for students on bikes and they must avoid this area during our arrival and dismissal times. Students have alternative options. One is highlighted in yellow. This pathway starts at the playground gates and wraps around to our crossing guard, who can then cross them safely away from our building and into the surrounding neighborhood streets. If you prefer a different route, we ask that you review some safe options with your children.

We also ask for your support in reminding your children about other safety practices, such as wearing their helmets, following traffic rules, and not riding in large groups.

We thank you for your support. With your partnership, we can help ensure that biking remains a fun, safe, and healthy way for students to get to and from school.

Best Regards,
Stephen Aspetti and Joyce Larkin

Good Afternoon Birch Lane Families,

What an amazing first day of school we had! It was wonderful to see the smiles on our students' faces throughout the day and to feel the positive energy coming out of all of their classrooms. Thank you for helping to make today such a smooth and successful start!

As we look ahead to day 2, here are a few quick reminders…

  • We will begin our Drop and Go procedure on Nassau Street tomorrow morning during arrival. All details for this procedure were sent home in student first day folders. Kindly read through these procedures carefully and reach out with any questions you may have. The Beacon Drive entrance will be available for all who prefer to “park and walk.”

  • Please be sure to send a note in for any dismissal changes. If you forget to send a note in the morning, please contact the main office, (516) 308-5101. Never send an email with information regarding a dismissal change.

  • Our first day of kindergarten is tomorrow. The PTA is hosting a Boo Hoo Breakfast for all kindergarten parents who would like to attend. Breakfast begins at 9:30 in our GP Room.

  • E-scooters and/or E-bikes are not permitted on school grounds. Dogs are also not permitted on school grounds

As always, we thank you for your support. Here’s to another great day tomorrow!

Specific details for this procedure will be coming home in student first day folders. Any questions, just send us an email. Your understanding and adherence to our procedures will ensure that arrival and dismissal run safely and smoothly!

  • Please have a valid photo ID with you during dismissal. Our teachers will be checking until they get to know all of their new families. Good Afternoon Fourth and Fifth Grade Families,

We hope that you are enjoying these last few days of summer and that you are as excited as we are to start a new year!

As you know, we have many procedures in place to ensure a safe and smooth dismissal for all of our students. One procedure that we implement is that we allow our fourth and fifth grade walkers to be dismissed on their own with permission from a parent/guardian. Many families like to take advantage of this option, especially when they are picking up younger siblings from different classrooms. If your child is a walker and you would like his/her classroom teacher to dismiss them on their own, kindly click on the link below and complete the form.

If your child typically takes the bus, but may ride his/her bike or be a walker at times, and you would like his/her classroom teacher to dismiss them on their own on those days, you may also click the link and complete the form below. Please note, that this would be considered a dismissal change. Please remember to always send your child's classroom teacher a note indicating the change for that day.

To Our Massapequa Family, As summer approaches, I’m filled with deep gratitude for all we’ve shared this year. Over the last few weeks, I’ve had the privilege of joining many of you—cheering at championship games, celebrating at concerts and field days, honoring milestones at moving-up ceremonies, and rejoicing at graduations. Each of these moments has been a powerful reminder that Massapequa is more than a district—it’s a family. Please click to read my full message to the Massapequa community. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GvEf-FXn8fbddIpkRDGcRrK_9eRXU-io/view?usp=drivesdk Sincerely, Dr. Brennan, Superintendent of Schools

Good Afternoon Birch Lane Families, As the weather has gotten nicer, we have seen an increase in the number of students who ride their bikes to school each day. With this increase in bikers, we have also observed a number of potentially dangerous situations take place that we would like to bring to your attention. Many students cross over our bus driveway, riding west on Beacon Drive towards Birch Lane. This is extremely dangerous with the number of parked cars and buses driving through that area. We ask that you please talk to your child about avoiding this area and discuss alternate routes that can be taken. Many students are riding without helmets. Please remember that it is our expectation for all students who are riding their bikes to wear a helmet. In New York State, bicyclist's 14 years old and younger are required to wear a helmet when riding a bike. Our bus drivers and crossing guards have also shared concerns about groups of students riding through the neighborhoods unsafely. As you know, the health and safety of our students is our top priority. If you have a child who rides to school, we ask that you take a few moments to review bicycle safety with your child. Please visit the link below for additional bicycle safety tips. https://www.dot.ny.gov/display/programs/bicycle/safety_laws/safety-tips Best Regards, Stephen Aspetti and Joyce Larkin
