Earlier today, we were informed that there was police presence in the neighborhood. As a precaution, we initiated our secure lockout for a brief period of time. All students and staff were safe, and normal school operations continued inside our building.
We would like to thank our students, staff, and families for their cooperation and for following our safety protocols during this time.

As a friendly reminder, all adults picking up students at dismissal should have a photo ID available. While our classroom teachers are familiar with the families in their classes, our substitute teachers may not recognize everyone.
To help ensure the safety and security of all students during dismissal, substitute teachers will ask to see identification from any adult they do not know. Having your photo ID readily available will help make the dismissal process smooth and efficient for everyone.

Our Chiefs After Dark Fall Fundraiser is November 10, and we’re gathering donations for our raffles and auction to raise money for programs and experiences that benefit Birch Lane students.
We’re looking for donations such as:
Sports tickets and experiences: game tickets, signed memorabilia or behind-the-scenes opportunities.
Special experiences: a weekend getaway, family outing, show tickets, lessons or a unique opportunity you can’t buy in a store.
Business donations: gift cards, products, services, memberships or gift baskets.
Sponsorships: businesses interested in supporting the event.
From a favorite local restaurant to a workplace connection, your introduction could help us secure something wonderful. Donations of all sizes are appreciated!

💙💛 Homecoming is tomorrow, Saturday, October 10! Join us as we celebrate and show our Birch Lane and Massapequa spirit!
Walking with Birch Lane?
Arrival: 11:45 a.m.
Parade begins: 12:30 p.m.
Meeting location: Village of Massapequa Park Municipal Parking Lot, next to Village Hall at the corner of 7th Avenue and Front Street
Please allow extra time for parking and look for the Birch Lane group when you arrive.
Prefer to cheer along the route?
If you would rather not walk the full parade route, join other Birch Lane families on Park Boulevard between Brendan Avenue and St. Regis Drive, in the orange “BIRCH” section shown on the map below. Wear your blue and gold, bring a sign, and help us cheer on the parade!
Parade route: The parade will leave the municipal parking lot onto 7th Avenue, travel north to Clark Boulevard, turn west onto Clark Boulevard, and then head south on Park Boulevard. It will continue east on Massapequa Avenue and end at Cartwright Boulevard. High school students will continue into the football stadium, while other parade participants will exit onto Cartwright Boulevard.

Please wear Birch Lane or Massapequa spirit wear, comfortable walking shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing. Children must remain with and be supervised by a parent or guardian throughout the event.
The Homecoming football game against Oceanside begins at 2:00 p.m.

A few reminders for the remainder of this week:
BMX Bike Show
As you know, tomorrow is Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day. As part of the celebration, the PTA has arranged a BMX Bike Show for all students. Please note that the show will take place outside on our playground. Students are welcome to bring a towel or blanket to sit on during the performance.
The weather is expected to be a bit chilly, so we recommend sending your child with a sweatshirt or light jacket. The show will last approximately 45 minutes.
Picture Day
Picture Days are scheduled for Thursday and Friday (our apologies for the conflict with Spirit Week). Please see the schedule below:

Extra Help
Extra help for students in Grades 1-5 is available every Wednesday beginning at 8:40 a.m. Arrival procedures for extra help are the same as our regular morning arrival routine.
Dismissal Changes
We are expecting strong participation in tomorrow's Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day. If your child will have a dismissal change, please be sure to send a note to your child's teacher.
