Today’s Air Quality Index is forecasted to be at an unhealthy level for the duration of today, July 16, 2026. As a result, we have required that all extended school year, summer recreation, and sports camp activities be moved indoors. All indoor field trips will remain as scheduled.

Dear Birch Lane Families,

As we begin planning for the 2026–2027 school year, we are excited to invite families who are interested in serving as a Class Parent to complete the attached Class Parent Interest Form.

Class Parents play an important role in supporting our teachers, students, and PTA throughout the school year. Two Class Parents will be selected by lottery for each classroom once class assignments have been finalized. Families selected for this role will be notified via email prior to the first day of school.

Class Parent responsibilities include:

Preparing and distributing class contact lists
Collecting and managing class dues throughout the year
Assisting the teacher with coordinating class celebrations
Organizing class baskets for PTA fundraisers
Coordinating holiday, teacher appreciation, and year-end class gifts
Sharing important PTA and school information with your class
Attending select class trips (as determined by the teacher)
Assisting with Field Day in June
Please note that, per school policy, younger siblings are not permitted to attend events where Class Parents are serving in an official volunteer capacity. Appropriate childcare arrangements should be made when necessary.

To serve as a Class Parent, volunteers must:

Be a current PTA member (PTA membership for the 2026–2027 school year opens in July.)
Attend a minimum of three (3) PTA General Meetings during the school year, either in person or via Zoom.
Be willing to serve as a communication liaison between the PTA, teacher, and classroom families.
If you are interested in being considered, please complete the attached Class Parent Interest Form by July 15, 2026.

Please note:

Complete a separate form for each child if you wish to be considered for multiple classrooms.
Submitting the interest form does not guarantee selection as a Class Parent. All Class Parents will be selected by lottery after class assignments are finalized.
Thank you for your interest in supporting our students, teachers, and the Birch Lane community. We truly appreciate your willingness to volunteer and look forward to another wonderful school year!

Dear Grade 4 Parents/Guardians,

We previously shared that Chromebook distribution would be delayed due to device availability.  We are pleased to inform you that the Chromebooks have arrived and will be distributed before the end of the school year.

All Grade 4 students will exchange their currently assigned Chromebook for a new Chromebook on the date provided by their classroom teacher.

Please note the following:

  • If applicable, please remove any personal protective cases from the Chromebook.

  • Students need to bring their current fully charged Chromebook and charger to school on the date indicated by their classroom teacher.

    • Students will keep their current Chromebook bag.

  • The new Chromebook will have a district-issued protective cover that must remain attached at all times. (This is in addition to their Chromebook bag that must be used when the Chromebook is not in-use.)

  • The new Chromebooks may have limited/no battery charge. Teachers have been informed and will plan accordingly.

Thank you,

The Massapequa School District

Good Afternoon Birch Lane Families,

This afternoon, we had a medical incident which required assistance from local emergency responders. In order to limit any unnecessary movement in our building, we initiated a “hold in place” while maintaining our instructional program. We are proud to share that all of our students and staff performed their responsibilities beautifully during this time.
