Good Morning Birch Lane Families,

This September 11th marks the 24th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center. The day was officially designated as Patriot Day. On this national day of Service and Remembrance, we pay tribute to the heroes and victims who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and we recommit ourselves to the spirit of unity, patriotism, and service that carried our Nation through in the days that followed.

We are asking for all students and staff are asked to show their patriotism by wearing red, white and blue tomorrow. We will begin our day by observing a moment of silence to reflect upon the lives lost and the impact of that day.

In Remembrance and Unity,

Stephen Aspetti and Joyce Larkin

Good Morning Birch Lane Families,

Over the first few weeks of school and throughout the year, your children will be practicing several emergency drills, including fire, lockdown and secure lockout drills as required by New York State and our district. The purpose of practicing these procedures is for your children and our staff to have familiarity and comfort with the routines.

It is necessary for us to be prepared for any type of emergency. For all of our drills, students are advised and prepared by their teachers in a sensitive and grade appropriate manner. Some drills will be announced and others will be unannounced. If we do need to implement any procedure for an actual emergency, you will be notified.

Hello Massapequa!

It’s that time! After nearly a year in the making, we’re proud to share a video capturing the heart, spirit, and pride of Massapequa: our students, our staff, and our community.

More than words, this is the story of our commitment — a community built on connection, tradition, and the belief that together we can unlock a world of possibility for every child. In just 2 minutes and 43 seconds, this video reaffirms our vision: “Creating Leaders… One Child at a Time.”

I hope you enjoy it, and I invite you to share this inspiring message. Now, let’s get to the show. 💙💛

Good Evening Birch Lane Families,

As you know, we have a large number of students who ride their bikes to school. While we love that our students are taking advantage of the nice weather and getting good physical activity before and after school, we continue to be concerned about their safety, particularly in the area around the front of our building. We are asking all parents/guardians to please review the attached map with their children.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1djys1u-322NDvqBwDqQiiqy6BPo94Jgx/view?usp=drive_link

This is an aerial map of the front of our building (Birch Lane). You will notice that there is an area highlighted in red on this map. Please explain to your children that they are not permitted to ride their bikes in this area. This area sees a high volume of traffic, including most of our buses. The street is narrow and turns are sharp. This area is extremely dangerous for students on bikes and they must avoid this area during our arrival and dismissal times. Students have alternative options. One is highlighted in yellow. This pathway starts at the playground gates and wraps around to our crossing guard, who can then cross them safely away from our building and into the surrounding neighborhood streets. If you prefer a different route, we ask that you review some safe options with your children.

We also ask for your support in reminding your children about other safety practices, such as wearing their helmets, following traffic rules, and not riding in large groups.

We thank you for your support. With your partnership, we can help ensure that biking remains a fun, safe, and healthy way for students to get to and from school.

Best Regards,
Stephen Aspetti and Joyce Larkin

Good Afternoon Birch Lane Families,

What an amazing first day of school we had! It was wonderful to see the smiles on our students' faces throughout the day and to feel the positive energy coming out of all of their classrooms. Thank you for helping to make today such a smooth and successful start!

As we look ahead to day 2, here are a few quick reminders…

  • We will begin our Drop and Go procedure on Nassau Street tomorrow morning during arrival. All details for this procedure were sent home in student first day folders. Kindly read through these procedures carefully and reach out with any questions you may have. The Beacon Drive entrance will be available for all who prefer to “park and walk.”

  • Please be sure to send a note in for any dismissal changes. If you forget to send a note in the morning, please contact the main office, (516) 308-5101. Never send an email with information regarding a dismissal change.

  • Our first day of kindergarten is tomorrow. The PTA is hosting a Boo Hoo Breakfast for all kindergarten parents who would like to attend. Breakfast begins at 9:30 in our GP Room.

  • E-scooters and/or E-bikes are not permitted on school grounds. Dogs are also not permitted on school grounds

As always, we thank you for your support. Here’s to another great day tomorrow!

Good Afternoon Birch Lane Families,

We hope this letter finds you and your loved ones well-rested and looking forward to the start of a new school year. Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! The entire Birch Lane staff has been busy preparing for the arrival of our students. We are all so excited to begin! Just a few reminders before we open our doors on September 2nd…

  • Tuesday, September 2nd is the first day for students in grades 1-5 and all of our 12:1:1 and 12:1:2 classes. Doors will open at 9:15.

  • All snacks coming into our classrooms need to be peanut/tree nut free. More specific classroom allergy information will come home in your child's first day folder.

  • Kindergarten Orientation is on Tuesday as well. Student drop off for Orientation is at 10:00 a.m. (Beacon/Playground Entrance) and pick-up is at 11:00 a.m. (please have your photo IDs ready). Don’t forget your child’s school supplies and to have your children wear their lanyards!

  • Wednesday, September 3rd is the first day for Kindergarten. Our PTA will be hosting a Boo Hoo Breakfast after arrival at 9:30 a.m. in the Birch Lane GP Room for all kindergarten parents who would like to attend.

  • Kindly review all of our arrival and dismissal procedures mailed home in our placement packets. Drop and Go on Nassau Street will begin on Wednesday, September 3rd. Specific details for this procedure will be coming home in student first day folders. Any questions, just send us an email. Your understanding and adherence to our procedures will ensure that arrival and dismissal run safely and smoothly!

  • Please have a valid photo ID with you during dismissal. Our teachers will be checking until they get to know all of their new families. If your child will be picked up by someone other than a parent/guardian, please write a note to your child’s teacher with specifics and make sure that they have a valid photo ID with them.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend! We are looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday!
