Dear Parents and Guardians,

A quick reminder: the January kindness activity, based on the book “The Invisible Boy,” is due this Friday 1/30. Please have your child write one unique quality about themselves and one unique quality about someone they know on the colored strip that was sent home last week. Thank you for helping us celebrate how everyone is seen and valued! Please see the original email below:

This month we read “The Invisible Boy” by Trudy Ludwig. In the story, the main character, Brian, feels invisible. He only starts to feel seen when another student in his school notices his unique qualities and shows him kindness. The story helps us learn how small acts of kindness can make others feel seen and valued.

Today, your child will be coming home with a colored activity sheet to write down unique qualities about themselves and others to help everyone feel seen rather than invisible. A sample is provided on the left side of the page.

Please have your child write on the provided color strip of paper one way that he or she is unique AND one way that a friend or family member is unique. After completing each strip, please cut each strip out and return to your child’s teacher by January 30th.

Each grade level is receiving a specific color, to be displayed on a bulletin board in the hallway, showcasing all the ways that we are unique and feel seen.

We look forward to seeing all the various characteristics that make your child and others unique, seen and special! We can help others feel seen rather than invisible. No one is invisible at Unqua!

Sincerely,

Unqua Elementary School Shared Decision Making Team
