Unqua Weekly Wrap Up
Dear Unqua Families,
I am very pleased to share with you and your children our club offerings for the 2026-2027 school year. There are a variety of clubs available that will help to develop and enrich the varied extracurricular interests of the Unqua student population. Clubs are listed by grade level. Please make sure that you click on the appropriate grade when applying for a club. Please review the clubs and if your child is interested, complete the online registration by Monday, September 14, 2026. You will receive an email from me by the end of the day September 15, 2026 which will inform you as to whether or not your child was enrolled in a club. There are limited spots open for each club. Club registration will be based on the order of registration. Responses are time stamped when they are fully submitted. To ensure that all children have a chance to participate, students may only partake in one club.
Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade STEAM Club - We know this is always very popular! As we did last year, in order to ensure fairness, we will be enrolling students based on order of enrollment AND students who did not participate in previous years.

Unqua’s Back to School Night is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9th
You will have an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher in your child’s classroom and learn about curriculum, classwork, homework, assessments, class trips and other important information. Please follow the schedule below:
7:00 P.M. - 7:30 P.M.
Grades 3, 4, and 5
7:30 P.M. - 7:55 P.M.
Magnet parents for Grades 4 and 5 will meet Mrs. Striffler in Room 33
Special Subject Area and Support Service Teachers will be in the Cafeteria if you would like to meet them.
8:00 P.M. - 8:30 P.M.
Kindergarten, Grades 1, and 2
Both the Main Lobby Entrance and the Gr. 4/5 Entrance will be open for your convenience. We appreciate your consideration of both the starting and ending times on the schedule. This gives our teachers the opportunity to prepare their classrooms and to properly welcome you. To allow parents to concentrate on the ideas being presented, Back to School Night is for adults only.

Once again we are partnering with the With Purpose Foundation to collect backpacks and school supplies for students in need. Please send in backpacks and school supplies all throughout September ~ collection bins are located in the Unqua lobby! Thank you for your generosity.

Dear Parents:
We are so excited to see the students for their first day of school (Wednesday for grades 1-5 and Thursday for kindergarten) to kick off the 2026-27 school year!
As you know, Unqua takes pride in the safety of all students, staff and families. Teachers will be discussing their classroom and school rules with your child with reference to the District Code of Conduct. Please take some time to review the Code of Conduct which can be found on the District website. Please also know that Mrs. Hulsaver and I will be discussing appropriate recess behaviors during lunch, and also talking to the students about appropriate bus behavior. We will continue to reinforce the Code of Conduct to ensure the safety of all students. If there is an issue at recess or on the bus, please know that we will contact you to apprise you of the situation. If inappropriate behaviors continue or escalate, disciplinary actions will be taken in accordance with the District’s Code of Conduct. We thank you for working with us to discuss and review good decision making in order to provide an environment conducive for learning.
Over the next few weeks, your child will be involved in practicing several drills as required by the Emergency Management Plan. The purpose of practicing these procedures is to afford your children the same familiarity and comfort level that they enjoy with the frequently practiced fire drills.
The Emergency Exercises required by the Emergency Management Plan are:
1. Fire & Evacuation Drills - If there is credible reason to believe that the building is in jeopardy, the premises will be evacuated under the supervision of local law authorities. If we were to evacuate the school, I remind you that it would be for the safety of students and staff.
2. Secure Lock - Out Drill - This procedure is used to prevent anyone from entering or exiting the building. All exterior doors to the building are locked.
3. Lock - Down Drill - This procedure will be implemented in the event that an intruder gains entrance to the building. After an announcement to initiate a lock - down procedure is made, the teachers will lock their classroom doors and move the children away from all windows quietly and calmly.
4. Sheltering Drill - This drill is practiced in the event of a natural disaster or similar emergency situation. When it is determined that sheltering within the building is necessary, students will be escorted by their teachers to a designated area large enough to accommodate the entire school population.
We will prepare students for these drills and practice them throughout the year, so in the case of an emergency all students and staff are prepared. Teachers are sensitive when discussing these plans and the reasons why each plan exists. Please do not hesitate to call the office if you have any questions.

Student placement will appear in the Parent Portal that will open on Tuesday, August 25, at approximately 11:00 am for Unqua students. Please be sure your Parent Portal account is active and ready, as there is NO mailing this year with student placement.

Dear MSD Grade 1-12 Parents/Guardians,
In preparation for the new school year, we ask that you please check your child(ren)’s district-assigned Chromebook(s).
Reminder from our summer technology information email: If your child needs a physical Chromebook repair over the summer months or prior to the start of the new school year, we ask that you please drop-off the Chromebook at the district office with the front monitor between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. (If a non-physical repair, please follow the troubleshooting steps located at www.msd.k12.ny.us/tech > Student Chromebooks prior to drop-off.)
Update: If you need a repair, please drop-off the Chromebook in the district office by August 21. If after August 21, please ask your child to visit their elementary school Computer Lab or secondary school Chrome Depot on the first day of school.
Please note, all incoming elementary students (i.e. Kindergarten, school district transfers, etc.) will receive a Chromebook and account information in their class at the start of the new school year. All incoming secondary students will receive a Chromebook and account information during school orientation days or at the start of the new school year.

Dear K-12 Parents/Guardians,
We hope you are enjoying your summer! Beginning this school year, information for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 will be shared by each school principal through email, the district website, and our app. Kindergarten families will continue to receive a summer mailing with instructions for creating a Parent Portal account or adding a student to an existing account.
Families should look for important back to school information from their child’s school later this month. As a reminder, if you do not already have our district, school, and teacher communication app, please download it now at www.msd.k12.ny.us/connect.
The Parent Portal will open for teacher assignments and class schedules on Tuesday, August 25, according to the schedule below. Parents and guardians of students in Grades 1 through 12 are encouraged to confirm that they can access their Parent Portal accounts before August 25. Kindergarten parents and guardians should check their mail later this month for their Parent Portal information.
Grade 1-12 Parents: To access the Parent Portal, visit www.msd.k12.ny.us/parentportal and sign in using your username and password. If you have forgotten your username or password, select the “Forgot Username or Password” link. For additional assistance, please email powerschool@msd.k12.ny.us.
