In the past, during this time of year students have planned and participated in scavenger hunts that take place during the weekends (Homecoming), outside of school and off of school grounds. This has become common in many of our surrounding communities as well. Please know that Massapequa High School has no part in the planning or organization of such events and does not endorse the planning, organization and/or participation in any such events. Many of the items on the "scavenger hunt" list are not only dangerous but illegal. Nassau County Police are aware of these potential events and the lists. They will be diligently monitoring our community. Proactively, please have conversations with your children about participation in activities like this and the dangers involved. Also please know that Massapequa District Security is available 24/7 and the phone number is 516-308-5333.

Homecoming Pep Rally

Attention Massapequa High School Students and Staff,

Good morning, Students and Staff,

Reminder: Wednesday, 10/7/26, and Thursday, 10/8/26, we will be conducting Underclass and Staff Photo Retakes in Cafeteria 141. Please visit during your lunch period if you would like to have your photo retaken.

Also, on Friday, 10/16/26, we will be holding Senior Portrait Final Retakes in Cafeteria 141 during lunch periods.

At approx. 11:10 am this morning, during 5th period, the ceiling tiles in the gym lobby began to leak water and puddle on the floor. Our custodial staff immediately took action to stop the leak and clean up the water. The building was forced to turn off our bells and hold students in their 5th period classes for a short period of time. Students were released from the 5th period classes via PA announcement and redirected to avoid using the gym lobby. By 11:35 am all students were in their 6th period classes , the leak had been stopped and the water cleaned up. The building has resumed normal activities and the transition from 6th to 7th period will be monitored closely by staff but is expected to run as usual.

Attention to MHS Students Attending the Homecoming Dance,

Massapequa High School-Main/Ames Campus’ Homecoming Dance is tonight from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. It will be held in the Berner Cafeteria. Students who purchased tickets are reminded that they must follow all expectations outlined in the Homecoming Dance Code of Conduct. Ticket purchases are no longer available and will not be sold at the door.

Please note:

• Students should not arrive before 6:30 pm. Doors will remain open until 7:15 pm.

• Parking is available in front of the cafeteria and the south parking lot at Berner.

• Parents dropping students off should pull into the south parking lot and circle around to exit the lot.

• Please remember no limos, party vans and/or buses are permitted.

• MHS will have a school nurse present and MHS chaperones will supervise the students.

• Food and refreshments will be provided.

• Entertainment will be provided by DJ. Photo opportunities will be available.

• If students choose to leave the dance early, they will sign out and will not be permitted to re-enter. We encourage students and parents to communicate their drop-off and pick-up plans with each other.

• Friday, October 2 is a regular school day.

MHS - Main Campus has concluded its practice Secure lockout drill. The building has returned to all normal procedures.

MHS- Main Campus will be conduct a practice Secure lockout drill this afternoon during 8th period (12:57- 1:38pm). All students and staff will receive a text message notification of when the drill begins and ends. During the drill no one is permitted to enter or exit the building. The drill will last approx. 10 minutes.

Dear 12th Grade Students and Families,

With so many exciting school and MSD community events filling our calendars this fall, we are canceling the in-person evening meeting for the NYS Seal of Biliteracy previously rescheduled for Thursday, October 1st.  Out of respect for your time and to ensure all students are supported, we are changing course on the meeting format. We hope to make this process as accessible as possible for everyone over the busy weeks ahead.

In order to share information and address questions, I will visit each 12th-grade World Language class over the next two weeks. I will walk students through the NYSSB requirements and answer any questions they have about earning the Seal. Additionally, I will communicate through the Rooms app for all students who sign up to be added to the Seal of Biliteracy Room.

Please review the informational slideshow at your convenience. If you have any questions after reviewing the slides, we invite you to submit them through our Question Catcher Form. Using this document will allow us to compile a shared FAQ resource for all.

Dear 12th Grade Students and Families,

Due to the weather this past weekend , Saturday’s MHS Varsity football game against Garden City was postponed and moved to this evening.  Recognizing the impact these weather-related scheduling changes have on our students and families, we have rescheduled our NYS Seal of Biliteracy Informational Meeting to this Thursday, October 1st, at 6:00 PM in the MHS Auditorium.   

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this date change may cause your schedule. During Thursday night’s presentation, we will dive into greater detail regarding how students can accumulate the required points in English and World Languages toward earning the Seal, review the application process and upcoming deadlines, and answer any clarifying questions you may have.
