Brigitte Kahn, recipient of NASTAR Award along with MSD Tech Team

Massapequa High School world language teacher Brigitte Kahn was the recipient of a NASTAR Award and honored during a recent ceremony hosted by Nassau BOCES. The award is presented by the Nassau Association of School Technologists, an organization that provides school district technology leaders and staff with an array of resources and professional development opportunities.

Ms. Kahn, who teaches German, exemplifies the spirit of the NASTAR awards through her innovative integration of technology. From the start of each class, she uses Google Forms to check in with students, ensuring she understands their needs before beginning instruction. Her Schoology course page serves as the foundation for daily language learning and culture-building activities, providing students with easy access to essential resources.

Leveraging social media, memes and reels to make German language and culture engaging and accessible, Ms. Kahn adds German music to her classroom that sets a European mood. As a technology leader, she consistently volunteers to pilot new initiatives, participate in technology committees, and collaborate on artificial intelligence guidelines. Her dedication to experimenting with new tools and methods aims to create the best possible language learning experience for her students.

Ms. Kahn was joined at the ceremony by Assistant Superintendent for Technology and General Administration Bryan Piotrowski, Executive Assistant for Instructional Technology and Innovation Alison Morgan, and technology learning coaches Jennifer Emberley, Jarrett Fifield and Meredith Marin.
