On the precipice of high school graduation, nearly 20 former students from McKenna Elementary School in the Massapequa School District returned to a place they called their second home for six years.
Gathering in the senior center on the morning on June 12, the seniors gathered for the second annual clap-out. After checking in, they made their way to a table to find their fifth grade picture on a stick. Finally, they lined up and then walked through their former halls, cheered on by McKenna’s students and staff.
After the walk-through was complete, the seniors were invited to stay and visit with former teachers. Many brought their yearbooks to be signed by the elementary educators who helped build the foundation for their success.
“These halls watched them grow,” Principal Dr. Amanda Lowry said. “Now we celebrate the incredible people our seniors have become. We were excited to welcome them back for one final walk.”
