Students from Berner Middle School's Community and Career Connections (CCC) class got a special opportunity to be guest readers at McKenna Elementary School! The middle schoolers went on a community outing to the Bar Harbour Library. There they searched for winter themed books and selected a book they thought the elementary students would like to listen to as a read aloud. After checking out their books and for the next two weeks, students practiced reading with inflection, to make sure they added interest and excitement to the stories they would share. With the help of Mrs. Scott, teachers at McKenna signed up for time slots for the Berner Readers. On the morning of Friday, January 23rd, the Berner Readers were welcomed into 10 classrooms. The CCC students got to read their stories and give directions for a brief paired activity for students to complete based on the theme of the book and skills they're working on in the curriculum. It was a wonderful opportunity for students, big and small, to make connections with one another.
