East Lake Kindergartners Enjoy Tea Time With Mom

Chocolate chip cookies and iced tea were on the menu as kindergartners at East Lake Elementary School dined with their moms on May 8. The morning Mother’s Day tea has been an annual event for nearly two decades.

Students from the four kindergarten classes were joined by their special guests in to the cafeteria, which was decorated with flower crafts made by the youngsters. They also made placemats for the special occasion.

The tea began with students reciting a song and poem to honor their mothers. Then, they sat down to enjoy snacks and conversation. Each child presented his or her mother with a corsage and a laminated “All about my mom” fact sheet.

Kindergarten teacher Diane Fitzsimmons said that the Mother’s Day tea began in 2006, and it is an event the children and parents look forward to each year.

“Mom are such special people,” she said. “It’s a nice celebration for all that they do for us each and every day.”
