Massapequa High School Celebrates 21 College-Bound Athletes

Representing a dozen sports, 21 student-athletes from Massapequa High School finalized their college commitments during a letter of intent signing ceremony on April 17. The seniors were joined by their parents and siblings, as well as administrators and coaches for the milestone moment.

The program included congratulatory remarks from Superintendent Dr. William Brennan, Principal Barbara Lowell and Director of Physical Education, Health, Athletics and Recreation Shannon McEntee. They noted that this achievement was the culmination of a lot of hard work and dedication to both their sports and their academics.

“There’s nothing like being a student-athlete,” Dr. Brennan told the soon-to-be collegiate players. “Your Massapequa experience and your family’s support has prepared you for this next chapter.”

The college-bound athletes are:

Baseball: Berk Gezlev (College of Mount St. Vincent), Travis Gfrerer (SUNY Oneonta) and James Reilly (University of New Haven).

Women’s Basketball: Grace Trotta (Molloy University).

Cheerleading: Ashlee Kazan (Austin Peay State University), Alexa Lacalandra (Hofstra University) and Safiya Pulizzi (Sacred Heart University).

Field Hockey: Colleen Emanuele (Wingate University).

Ice Hockey: Vaughn Winter (Alvernia University).

Football: Jason Kovaluskie (St. John Fisher University).

Women’s Lacrosse: Shannon Day (SUNY Geneseo).

Women’s Lacrosse and Women’s Soccer: Holly Krieg (York College of Pennsylvania).

Women’s Soccer: Michela Napolitano (Molloy University).

Men’s Soccer: Jack Gomes (St. Joseph’s University) and Jonathan Toma (SUNY Maritime).

Swimming: Tristan Ehrhardt (Manhattan College).

Tennis: Michael Lerman (Farmingdale State College).

Track and Field: Colin Bresnihan (SUNY Oneonta), Daniel McWilliams (Manhattan College) and Noah St. George (Swarthmore College).

Volleyball: Isabella Juliano (St. Joseph’s University).
