A popular 1980s flick will be transformed into a live theater experience at Massapequa High School, as the drama club gets set for back-to-back performances of “Footloose: The Musical” on March 10 and 11.
The cast of 47 students will recreate the 1984 story about a city teenager who moves to a small town where rock music and dancing have been banned. The show features several dynamic musical numbers including “Almost Paradise,” “Footloose,” “Holding Out for a Hero” and “Let's Hear it for the Boy.”
Lead actors include junior Robert M. as Ren McCormack, junior Ava C. as Ariel Moore, senior Jesse F. as Rev. Shaw Moore, senior Arianna S. as Vi Moore, senior Sophia D. as Rusty, junior Jayden P. as Chuck Cranston and junior Cooper A. as Willard.
“I like the energy of all of the dances and there’s a lot of fun characters,” said Jesse, starring in his fourth show at Massapequa High School. He added that audiences will enjoy all the “twists and turns” in the storyline.
Jayden, making his stage debut, said he was interested in sharing his vocal talents in a new way and has a solo in “The Girl Gets Around.” He noted that “Footloose” is a fast-paced show and the cast puts a lot of emotion into the scenes.
The show is directed by Katie Pearsall, with Danielle Coutieri as the choreographer and Craig Coyle as the vocal and pit director. Other members of the pit include Eva Arnold, Melissa Coyle, Andrew Dwork, Jeremy Einhart, Eddie Melikian, Michael Molloy and Michael Perticone.
Show times are Friday, March 10 and Saturday, March 11 at 7 p.m. in Massapequa High School’s Baldwin Auditorium. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling the Fine and Performing Arts office at (516) 308-5085.
