Ready Readers Move Forward at Fairfield
Fourth graders in Susan Crimarco’s class at Fairfield Elementary School are undoubtedly stronger readers after a monthlong competition.
Students participated in an iReady reading contest and the goal was for each child to pass at least 20 lessons in the digital assessment tool. Teachers use iReady to determine a student’s reading needs, create a personalized instructional plan and monitor progress.
The competition in Ms. Crimarco’s class got pretty serious. When it was over, students collectively passed 1,301 lessons, well more than 20 per reader. The top reader in the class passed 156 lessons, and everyone advanced multiple reading levels.
For their efforts, the class earned a week of no homework and the top five readers got a lunch of their choice with Ms. Crimarco. She said that next up will be an iReady math competition.
