Lockhart Students Have a Hand in Spreading Winter Warmth

The giving spirit of the holiday season has continued into the new year at Lockhart Elementary School. The student council is organizing a mitten drive to help others stay warm this winter.

Just a few days after the drive began on Jan. 5, the mitten tree in the Lockhart lobby was already covered with donations from students and staff. The drive continues through Jan. 19, when mittens and gloves will be given to YES Community Counseling Center in Massapequa, to help people in need.

In addition to their own donations, fifth grade student council members have led a successful effort to publicize the drive. They created posters that have been hung throughout the school encouraging the Lockhart community to “help warm hearts and hands this winter.”
