Acquiring Apple Awareness at East Lake

Johnny Appleseed   Johnny Appleseed   Johnny Appleseed   Johnny Appleseed   Johnny Appleseed

Kindergartners celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day at East Lake Elementary School with lots of activities about the shiny red fruit, covering an array of subject areas.

On Sept. 24, students in Serena Dixon’s class got a history lesson when they learned about John Chapman, who became known as Johnny Appleseed when he introduced apple trees to several states in the 19th century. For science, they learned about the life cycle of an apple, and for literacy, they identified the sight words in an apple poem.

To have a memento from the day, each child received an apple-shaped piece of paper with the poem attached, then glued small pieces of red construction paper around the edges and a green leaf on top.
