Fairfield Kindergartners Tell Stories With Puppets

Book Characters   Book Characters

Understanding characters is an important literacy skill for kindergartners in Mary Lynn McCauley’s class at Fairfield Elementary School. In getting to know the subjects of the books they have read, children made puppets to help role-play the characters and act out their stories.

Ms. McCauley explained that the puppets help tell what the characters can do, what they say and act how they act. Doing so helps her young readers understand how their characters feel and what they think. She added that this practice helps children with their own writing as they learn how to develop characters for their stories.
