Fifth graders are learning how to converse in Spanish about different places in the community as part of the district’s Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools program.
At Birch Lane Elementary School, students recently played a game to help further their understanding of the Spanish language led by FLES teacher Stacy Incardona. Five students came up to the front of the room, each holding a card that indicated different places in the community they were at, such as the airport, bank, mall, library or park. Their classmates had to ask questions in Spanish to determine their locations.
Massapequa elementary students in grades 3-5 receive 20 minutes of Spanish instruction twice a week.
